I found FF XIII not soo bad.
The only thing that i don't liked was the map design (no open-world except Grand Pulse).

the main story is a disgrace in itself, so why would a fate such a small event be any better...
and thats the same mistake they made here, this is not a true open world game despite being an mmorpg, its just a bunch of small instanced areas, the biggest are taking up to 2 maybe 3 minutes to run accross from one edge to the other... that makes the game lacking in exploration and immersion, and severely compacts the population of the server in one spot...
We have still areas (and not every area is instanced). In FF XIII it was corridors.and thats the same mistake they made here, this is not a true open world game despite being an mmorpg, its just a bunch of small instanced areas, the biggest are taking up to 2 maybe 3 minutes to run accross from one edge to the other... that makes the game lacking in exploration and immersion, and severely compacts the population of the server in one spot...
As example, just imagine every zone in ARR would be designed like 1.0 Black Shroud.
Here a map if you didn't played 1.0:

I thought the event gave a pretty good insight as to how Lightning will come to have a miqote outfit in Lightning Returns (....)
However, I was disappointed there was no voiceacting and real storyline to go with it. I'm also disappointed we never get to read the citystate newspapers in game ;/
A disgrace to the series?
FFXIII has been a disgrace by itself in the first place.
I kinda want to Re-play 13 now. Never got to finish it, but I think I was getting close. Pretty sure God of War came out and I dropped it :<
Why, no it doesn't! Just because you dislike something does not make it objectively bad de facto. OH MY!
Well, at least now this means that FF13 has multiple sequels AND a crossover to 14. Meanwhile, poor old FF7 continues to languish while the fanboys cry for more Feffirof.
like i said thats not a open world map, just a small instanced zone, i bet you wouldnt take more than 3 or 4 minutes to run from one side to the other....We have still areas (and not every area is instanced). In FF XIII it was corridors.

compare it to other mmo's out there and the scale of even instanced areas in those games are much much bigger(aion), or they just have one single gigantic zone(wow, rift, lineage 2)... you play in small areas and wheny ou open up your map you see a gigantic portion fo the map where you cant access, dont tell me everywhere besides where we are playing is just a black hole where nothing exists... they should have made all areas into one large map, and fill in the remaining blank zones... even if you didnt have to do anything in those new areas, at least you would have a big world to explore and room to implement further content in the future... hopefully we can see something like this in the future , though i doubt it since the playstation probably cant handle the stress of such scenaries, once again pc players get shunned by console players...

VII was far more broken than XIII ever was, yet it was the most successful FF game because it was most people's first FF game. Maybe it's different where I come from, I don't know, but generally "unsuccessful" and "horrible" games not only don't get sequels, but it doesn't get sequels that does better and is better design. Normally "flopped games" tend to be forgotten by a company and they try to move past it because, you know, they don't want to put out even more flopped games ontop of the same flopped game?
.No video game will ever be as successful as it was before, especially later in the series because most people seem to feel the need to constantly compare, but if you so much as compare XIV to XI for example, you get told (usually very rudely) "DO NOT COMPARE A FF GAME TO A PAST FF GAME ESPECIALLY FFXI!"
FFI? Successful, FFII? Hit/Miss, FFIII? Unheard of for many and very hit/miss, FFIV? Succesfful. FFV? Unheard of for the longest, FFVI? Successful and deemed the best, FFVII? Again, successful and deemed the best but it was also highly unfinished, broken, rushed and most people's first. So to me, it's a wonder who say XIII wasn't successful also tend to be the same people who say FFXI was a horrible and unsuccessful MMORPG
