I will say that from what I've gauged, Japanese players react better to Lightning than non-JP players. Not quite sure why, but there you have it.

I'll speak for myself on this one. Gilgamesh was not shoved down people's throats repeatedly. At the most he appeared without any context yet still managed to remain memorable. That's including his major fails while attempting to make cool entrances in FFXII.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

There is nothing wrong with Claire I like her a lot. I feel she was wasted on 13. The game itself though... essssh

If she was referring to the one that is traveling through time, it makes sense to be in other games. And that Gilgamesh was awesome. When he got depressed and stopped fighting you when he found out Galuf died made him the coolest anti-hero to me in Final Fantasy.

If she was referring to the bandit in FFXI, then yeah I hated him too, his stupid accent and I don't like pirates.

The last real FF is VI.

After that, the series has lost the "fairytale" feeling,
    too many machines, too fashion

I didn't like FFXIV's story at all. The characters felt like cardboard cut outs.
However, I vehemently disagree about the battle system being bad. In fact, I would say it might be battle system I've come across in an RPG and definitely one of the most rewarding combat systems in any type of game I've played.

The AI was smart enough for what it was. Really, the whole point of the system was not about the individual spells/abilities. It was about controlling the tide of battle. Yes, the battle was fought for you, but that's because you're more like a tactician than one of the characters. It's a good use of the ATB gauge, which quite honestly never really fit in to me.
The ATB gauge is a pretend-turn based system. It always felt like a half system to me. Turn based combat is fine and works with navigating menus and dictating individual combat commands. The ATB gauge, on the other hand, simply doesn't, because it's timed turn based combat. So to make it work, they cut out the middle man and took the player at a higher level of command.

Instead of controlling characters, you control the battlefield. Somewhat like a strategy game but much more dynamic. Then you add the combo chain/stagger with the various roles that work around it and you've got a deep, fluid and ambitiously executed combat system. Ironically, it's closer in being strategy minded like older turn based JRPGs by taking the ATB gauge type system a step further. Thank God.

Overall, I don't have a positive opinion of FF13. However, I will definitely defend its combat system. I also approve of its leveling system just as much.
For all its fault, I do hope its legacy will be its innovation of a stale system.

You press x, and you win. That is not a good battle system.

How is spamming fog over and over again an intelligent AI when you Libra'ed and see that De-shell and de-protect will weaken the boss. And even if you switch the leader character, the auto-battle still makes you spam the same abilities which de-shell and protect are not in that line up. Making it doing it manually, but doing that way make you die because you have to go through several menus to get to the ability.

I'm getting sick of seeing this exaggeration.

Yes ffxiii battle system is the best of the serie yet ( i don't count mmos)

The story is you like it or you don't, it changed from the previous FF titles but it's neither the first time it happens nor the last time, compare the first FF to the VI, the VI to the VII, the VII to the XII...

Although you can't deny the fact that the character where good written if not the best written characters of FF.

And yes the level design was bad, but other FF games didn't shine for their level design.

Exaggeration? Did you even play the game? You literally hit X to confirm auto-battle and the fight wins for you. God forbid you throw one extra button which is for the paradigm shift.
