RUMOR: PS3 release/PC fees restored on August the 14th?

Wouldnt they need a really nice several month advertising/hype campaigne if they actually think they have ANY shot of pulling this game back from the 3s and 4s it got in the original reviews? If FFXIV just shows up on the shelves for PS3 without some SERIOUS advertising/hype this shit is dead now.

TERA is releasing in Japan shortly. I dont think they would bother releasing it if there was no market there. JP people seem pretty open to playing the game.

Im not saying that this means FFXIV will lose subscribers, Im just saying that making a blanket generalisation of all japanese people while casting aspersions on their MMO preferences is kind of presumptuous.

Stretching out advertising for several months BEFORE a release is one of the silliest things you can do in marketing.
First month -> "nice! I might get that"
Second month -> "Interesting, where can I get it? Oh... it's not out yet. Meh"
Third month -> "this again?"

Gotta love how some people think that "More adz!" is a surefire way to success. If only it was that simple... Even more funny when those people go out on a limb saying "if they don't do what I say, this is dead!" like they knew anything about marketing

Excessive hype will do nothing that damage this game, as people now want cold hard facts, not promises. As for the several months of "advertisement" I've already explained how it works.
The most effective advertisement campaigns last one to two months top. Lont term Hype is good only when you didn't (spectacularly) fail to deliver on it once already, because if you did, further hype dies fast.
What this game needs is to deliver a solid PS3 version that will generate good review scores and a discounted digital relaunch of the PC version on Steam.

THEN advertisement will have a solid base to build on. If they were to release in August, starting at E3 to build the hype (with something very solid to show on stage) would be plenty, more would simply let any hype drop before the time comes, given that the audience is already jaded.

Besides, I do have a degree in brand management, and quite a few years of experience in both local and international marketing (not to mention texture design, localization, voice acting and a couple other interesting fields). But of course I could be making that up as well, who knows.
