There is a lot insted. If i take a lvl 20 dungeon with a lvl 20 class, it's natural i have equip for a lvl 20. But when i'm doing a lvl 50 dungeon with lvl 50 equip, i should be gimped because the single iLvl is highter ? That's madness. When you really think about it, there is very little difference between syncing for WP and syncing for DD. The biggest problem, and why they can't/won't implement ilevel sync right now is because there are no other dungeons. If there were multiple i55, i60, i70, and i80 dungeons. You wouldn't care so much about ilvl sync, it would essentially be the same as level syncing for leveling dungeons. The problem is, they haven't released these dungeons yet and that's why having that Allagan weapon would be meaningless outside of coil, as there is no 2.0 content outside of coil that an Allagan weapon would not sync down to.
Maybe its just perspective then, I view WP as a level 55 dungeon, AK as a level 60 dungeon, HM Primals as level 70 Trials, and Coil as a level 90 dungeon(is it really a 'raid' if its still just an 8 person party?). When you think of it like that, there is functionally no difference. The problem is, AK and WP are the only level dungeons we can grind for myth tomes. If we had a full suite of dungeons from 55 up through 80, ilevel sync would make more sense.
It would be beneficial for the long term health of the game, at least in my opinion, but a system like that isn't ready until they've actually released dungeons with that kind of equipment requirement. Otherwise, all ilevel sync would do atm would be to downsync most of the gear the majority of the player base is working on, which would just serve to piss most people off.
However, the kind of culture that not having ilevel sync is currently fostering is that a person's worth in game is their ilevel. I've DF'd a few WPs with people who weren't full darklight and it was awful when compare to doing SRs with people that are ~i80 average right now. With ilevel sync, hardcore players and casual players are essentially on generally the same footing when running content that is below max tier.
