I noticed theres a lot of FAQ about classes, so I plan to have this guide cover some of them.

Class FAQs


Q1: Why can't I change from my current class to another class even though I have the level requirements needed?


A: When you first start up FFXIV you are started with a class off the bat then to change to another class the game has two requirements before you can do that.

The first requirement is to reach lvl 10 and the second requirement is to finish your lvl 10 class quest at your chosen class guild. (A quick side-note; Story and Class quest are separate, Class quests will be at your class's guild leader npc till you finish your lvl 30 class quest which will move you over to your job npc.)



Q2: I often see players on the same class as myself use skills from other classes, how are they able to do this?


A: Certain skills are able cross-over to other classes, in order to check which skill can cross-over to which class, place your pointer over the skill for a description that will show the affinity that tells the player which class can use the selected skill.

As for cross skill slots, When you have a job's soul crystal equipped, you get one cross-class slot for every 10 levels. When you don't have a soul crystal equipped, you get one slot for every 5 levels.

Below is a list of current jobs open and obtainable from getting lvl 30 and finishing the level 30 class quest and job quest as well as the level and class-wise requirements for them and what classes they can cross-class skills from.

Job List:
Warrior: lvl 30 Marauder, lvl 15 Gladiator. Can use cross-class from sub and Pugilist

Paladin: lvl 30 Gladiator, lvl 15 Conjurer. Can use cross-class from sub and Marauder

Monk: lvl 30 Pugilist, lvl 15 Lancer. Can use cross-class from sub and Marauder

Dragoon: lvl 30 Lancer, lvl 15 Marauder. Can use cross-class from sub and Pugilist

Bard: lvl 30 Archer, lvl 15 Pugilist. Can use cross-class from sub and Lancer

White mage: lvl 30 Conjurer, lvl 15 Arcanist. Can use cross-class from sub and Thaumaturge

Black mage: lvl 30 Thaumaturge, lvl 15 Archer. Can use cross-class from sub and Arcanist

Summoner: lvl 30 Arcanist, lvl 15 Thaumaturge. Can use cross-class from sub and Archer

Scholar: lvl 30 Arcanist, lvl 15 Conjurer. Can use cross-class from sub and Thaumaturge


Q3: I have recently reached level 10 and gained bonus points but I have no idea where to put my points into!


A: Bonus points have a very slight affect against your actual class, they are useful but do not stress over being perfect with them, you will not see someone hitting up a 500 dmg difference over a difference between 1 misplaced bonus point.

( Acns can do a hybrid between Int and Mnd if Smn and Sch is desired however Int is recommended first for a starter Acn.)


Q4: Will my class bonus points share between every class and job I level?


A: Nope! they don't. Every class will have separate bonus point that is only shared with them and the job(s) that they can change into at that moment! Right now all classes but arcanist have 1 job to share points with, meaning Arcanist's are given the option of sharing their bonuses between both (Currently a DoT DPS with a Tanky and two DPS-based summons) Summoner and Scholar (Healer with support-based Summons)


Q5: I've heard that in order to change to achieve my job stone I must have a lvl 15 sub-class but I am unsure of which I should level, which should I level to aquire my stone.


A: Yes! every job requires their main class to have their main class to lvl 30 then another to 15 and for the player to have completed their lvl 30 class quest.
