You can already team up with players and fight open world mobs for abysmally slow EXP. There's your FFXI experience.

Actually, if you get a full party and kill things at least 5 levels higher than yourselves, the exp goes pretty quickly. Maybe not as quickly as fates, but definitely quicker than dungeon grinding. Just have to find the right spawn point (like in any other MMO). My FC actually did this for a while to level up alts.
Try as I might, I just don't understand the FFXI bashing. Not only was it a better game, but it was also more successful. Why SE strayed from the path and groundwork they already had was beyond me.
EXP parties may already be here, but they are a pathetic excuse for it. FATE exp is almost fun about halfway through the first job you level. You don't quite get the social interaction from a PT that runs for many levels. Which, we all know that the majority of people coming to MMO's now don't really want social interaction with friends on a close level, and god knows they don't want to have to invest time and/or put work into experience points. The fact that you can take a job to 50 as fast as you can without ever joining a PT goes to show for that. But hey, this is what the people want. Gimme gimme gimme

Whether FFXI was a better game is a matter of opinion, one that the majority of players FFXIV:ARR is aimed at (whether you like it or not, Yoshi wanted to draw in the WoW crowd) are likely to disagree with. Saying that FFXI was more successful than FFXIV:ARR also doesn't have any ground at this point. What are you basing that off of? FFXIV:ARR hasn't been out for a decade, and you don't know that it won't be around.. so can't really be better there. FFXIV:ARR has more subscribers than FFXI ever had.. and ARR turned around SE's profits for the better this year.. though I can't get exact numbers.. so money-wise FFXIV has either already beaten out FFXI, or is well on the way there.
Not saying FFXI was a bad game, obviously many people enjoyed it, however it wasn't everyone's cup of tea. Just like not every MMO is going to be your cup of tea. Games, in general, should not be made to feel like a job.. they're for entertainment after all. Not to say some people don't find grinding fun, but they sure seem to be in the minority.
EXP farming is in this game, and if you have bad spawn points then it's sure going to slow down your leveling. But hey, then you might be leveling at a speed that would seem less casual to you, so perhaps that's better? I personally don't see a difference in handicapping yourself in that manner versus adding exp grind designated areas to the game and increasing experience to level. They both translate to the same thing.
heh. didn't some people actually test the whole xp-party method shortly after release and confirmed that - when done right - you got MORE xp than with fates? I vaguely remember something like that.
the reason why nobody does xp-parties is simple, though: even those who want to do them are discouraged when all they see in /shout is 'FATE PARTY LFM' or 'FATE PARTY PLZ'
*shrug*
I'd suggest you just post on your server forums that you're looking for other people who'd rather chain grind than fate grind and post the times you're usually online
