Fun ideas to differentiate the tanks

I was thinking about what SE might to do give the tanks some flavor, without breaking things. This has nothing to do with omg-buffs, but just the desire to keep warrior and paladin as separate beasts.

First, make flash blind baseline. Warrior's flash could blind starting at 7 seconds, while paladin starts at 15, just because it is the paladin's skill. Yes, this is a buff to warrior, but it's sensible. It changes nothing for Paladin from its current state.

Give warriors "Improved Overpower", "Your overpower has a 20% chance against each target to pacify the target." Working the same as paladin's pacify, it would be 5 seconds the first strike against a target and 3 seconds if the target was struck again by the effect.

Give paladins "Improved Flash", Double's blind duration (up from the 7.5 baseline, so 15, just like we have it now) and reduces the remaining recast time on circle of scorn by 2 seconds.

Give Warrior's a bonus to tomahawk that refreshes but does not add a wrath stack. Actually, it could add a wrath stack, or have a chance to since tomahawk is prohibitively expensive on TP.

As others have said in other threads, make Sword Oath decrease the paladin's enmity (on everything but flash, if possible). A paladin who wants to do more damage AND tank in trivial content could just use no oath at all, Shield for tanking, and Sword for Off-tanking/waiting.

Take both oaths off the GCD and free on MP. A Paladin freshly raised doesn't have the MP to pop shield oath, and mana potions give non-mages a pitiful amount of mp.

Add an effect to Improved Bloodbath that decreases the TP cost of every ability by 20% while under the effect of Bloodbath.

Add an effect to Improved Rampart that increases the paladin's mana return while under the effects of rampart. The effect could be based on damage taken (10% of damage taken for the duration is returned as MP.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Good flavor ideas are things that shouldn't change the course of the battle if they don't happen, and I'm trying to avoid talking about real buffs.

Make WAR's Mercy Stroke give the warrior mp proportionate to damage dealt, along with current effects.

Shield Lob (Can change red text to Tomahawk and it will work perfectly Warriors)
    /macroicon "Shield Lob"
    /ac "Shield Lob" <t>
    /marking attack1 <t>

I don't see much reason to differentiate the 2. They already play completely different, and it looks to be more so in the coming patch. One is reliant on their different combo's to be effective, one is reliant on their cool downs.

The only thing I would do to differentiate them further would be improve the PLD's oaths to make casting cure effective. Spell speed + on Shield Oath so they can cast spells while tanking and toss out a few cures to help ease the healers a bit. And a cure %+ for Sword Oath, so when they OT they contribute survivabilty to the party and effectively act as more of a supporty OT role, while WAR acts as a DPS OT role.

People are up in arms over some WAR changes making it more like PLD. Changes were necessary, and these should suffice, but other changes would have been better.

As for playing completely different, Warrior presently has two rotations vs Paladin's 1. There's some talk around here about giving paladin a second real rotation (for more than just mp) so that paladin boss tanking is a little less...easy.

I always wanted a shield tank with cooldown where the tank plants his shield in the ground in front of him, props shoulder against it and leans into it. The ability itself would have high enmity but the tank would do no damage for the duration. (Striking the shield could slow the target though, and cause additional enmity).

It wouldn't work in 14 because it's seldom safe to sand so still, but still.

What game are those pictures from?

In Gw2 you have an ability with a shield that a "warrior" can use to plant the shield

    Bumping, because

What about making Mercy Stroke give the warrior MP proportionate to damage along with current effects.

This should definitely depend on the armor you're wearing. AF armor for Paladins is so damn reflective, it really ought to double the potency of flash!

Come to think of it, it would be pretty darn cool if extra effects were tied to off-hand weapons, like the shield....
