The New Class/Job system in a nutshell!

Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong section, but I didn't really see anything else that looked right to me.

K, I just wanted to clarify(for the most-part) what the new FFXIV class/job system entails. If I'm wrong tell me, cause I am making this post to question the community if I am right, or wrong. I'd like to have a better understanding. (If I am right, then the learning curve behind the system is pretty intense )

I am going to use the Disciplines of War for my examples.
Right now we have "weapon specialists", Marauder=Great axe specialist, Gladiator=Sword specialist, Archer=bow+arrow specialist.

The new job system is going to be like what we have in FFXI, like Red Mage, Warrior, Paladin, Dragoon, etc...

So with that being said, the progression system in it's entirety is basically what we have in ffxi, but split into two separate, individual categories, Classes(weapon specialists), and Jobs(some form of theme).

So for example, when i reach Rank 30 Marauder I can choose to unlock the job Warrior. Because I was required to unlock Warrior with Marauder, the only available weapon of use, is Great Axe. However, if I level lancer rank 15, my Warrior has the option of using pole-arms with the additional ability to transfer select abilities from the Lancer class.

So in a nutshell classes are weapons, and jobs, well are just jobs like we have in ffxi.
I am sure jobs will be limited to weapons they can use, just in like ffxi.

With all that said, am I correct?

    Well said .

Rinsui's right though, we really don't have 'any' information on this system yet other then the little bits they posted about Jobs being 'specializations' and getting their own special gear.

I agree, I think it will end up similar to this...

    Lancer>
    Marauder> Warrior
    Gladiator>

And then warrior would take away certain skills that would not fit the warrior job, and adds a few warrior specific ones.

    Conjuer>
    Thaumaturge> White Mage

Both can be whitemages, but their DPS spells are locked out, with the exception of dia and Banish maybe, and they'd get new whitemage specific spells.

    Lancer >
    Marauder >
    Gladiator > Thief
    Archer > Warrior
    Pugilist >
    Thaumaturge >
    Conjurer

A fun way to look at what a job might be made of perhaps?
Or more probable, me playing with colors for giggles.

That has been the most entertaining player comment on the job/class system I've seen so far! <3

I sorta believe it will be like classes can branch out into different jobs after a certain lvl that are exclusive of that class, but might use their own arms.

i.e. (used "lvl 40+" for the heck of it could be any lvl)

Marauder---> Warrior (lvl 40+ Axe Marauder)
    |
--> Dark Knight (lvl 40+ Scythe Marauder)

    Conjurer--->Whm (lvl 40+ 1-handed Conjurer)
    |
    -->Summoner (lvl 40+ 2-handed Conjurer)

And perhaps the "specialization" will lvl up independently from the core class it derives from, kind of like how the "Physical Lvl" / "Class Rank" worked before that remake of the combat system.

from what i've understood official statements, warrior will be forced to use axe, and you must use marauder as the 'subclass', and wont be able to take abilities from other classes.

I severely hope i'm wrong, but im not looking forward to a the restrictive job classes ive read about. I <3 the armoury system

will not be like 11 at all. Jobs unlock there skills from quest, and retain the skills from the class. The extent of cross class skilling has not been confirmed, but already its nothing like. 11 was jobs and sub jobs. the sub job just being the bottom half of the skills from another job. in 14 the skills will be new and only accessible via the job. Also the stats are modified to the job.
