Complete Beginner

Hi all, had I looked further into the forums I would have seen this 'New player help' section and posted here first! At the moment Im just playing around with different characters as I cannot even settle on a specific type! I could really do with some help and advice, and also some actual people to talk too in game, Im more than happy to start on a new character if it means I have people to chat too and help me a little lol. Thanks guys. HELP

Character race doesn't matter too much. Just choose something you like, because you're going to be looking at that character for a long time to come. And as you level up, you're going to be putting points into whatever attributes you want. So you can have a lalafell Gladiator, or a Roegadyn mage, and not actually be any worse off.

Selbina is rumored to be the busiest server. I don't know if that's true or not. But if you want a lot of people to interact with, choose a busy server (usually shown by the number of chocobos in the server menu). And then start in Uldah. Most players have migrated to Uldah on pretty much every server, so that's where you'll find most people.

You'll probably want to join a linkshell as soon as possible. Not only is it incredibly helpful to have others there to help you out, but it gives you people to interact with.

I'd consider either joining EdenArchangel -- who's always helpful to new players here in the forums -- or check out the forum for whichever server you join. Linkshells sometimes post ads there, so you can join one of those linkshells.

The great advantage we have right now is that this is still free to play, so you can make several different characters and check out several different servers. ^_^
I've even done that. I wanted to make a red-headed kitty so I did... and after a couple days I missed my original. ^.~
So maybe each weekend check out a different server. Oh and you should probably tell folks you befriend what you are doing. The hot topic lately is people who stop logging on that are in a linkshell... the leader has no way to remove them & it's kind of frustrating. ^^;;; So if you think you won't be back, drop the "pearl". You can always get a new one if you decide to go back.
