it should be noted that it's only 10$ to the US, but anyone playing in the EU territory used to have to pay import fees and shipping (not sure about if they have a more local distributor yet) which at the time of the game's release cost nearly £30. which to those too lazy to run a currency conversion:

    £30 = $49.52 = €34.58

    compared to:

    $10 = €6.90 = £6.05

yes it is not everyyhing in life is for free. And it is only accounts linked to Sqaure members. The token is $10 and lasts a good 5+ years. So your getting your moneys worth. Its like buying a gaurd dog. Or a security system for your home.

I can't believe people are calling that a "minor" inconvenience. It's a huge pain in the rectum to have to change your password every time you login if you're on a dynamic IP ISP. Making your game a pain in the rectum to login to is not smart, especially in XIV's current state. It pretty much forced me to use the security token which is just as much a pain in the rectum as having to change my password each time.

I should also point out that forcing people to change passwords that often makes it very insecure as people end up having to write passwords down in Notepad or on paper. I had to do that with my university e-mail account because they forced us to change it every three months that by the time you remembered it you'd have to change it again.

Never in my 13 years of using the internet have I had an internet account accessed by an unauthorised person. It boils down to common sense when creating passwords and downloading files off the net. This should be OPTIONAL. There is no argument here. The only way people are getting in my account is if someone launches a PSN style attack on the SE servers and it's down to SE to secure those.

    1. you put your ip address in to SE account manager, however people dont usually know thier IP address, even if they know about ipconfig that only gives your local IP address, if you are using NAT (which you will) then its alot harder to get your external IP because users dont need to know it.

    2. the first x amount of PCs are regestered to use, the problem with this is if you havent use the entire alotment of PCs then the system is useless, and it might as well be scrapped.

Also it was either in patch notes or one of Yoshi-P's letters when it was implemented, if you dont read those then you wont of heard it, there has been no reason to publicize it to the world, just where it matters.
    1) agree

    2) Like ps3 for content downloaded from psn or mp3 buyed from iTunes, a person can remove a PC from the System.

Obviously the "recognize system" must be protected. (with IP check system maybe)

But i think that in this way issue was solved and anyone can log from friend's PC (with FFXIV), from laptop when outside (train, airport, home, in a personal store where you work, ecc).

Obviously i think that people register only PC that can be considered "SAFE", and not a internet cafe's PC XD

In this way if we have a keylogger, like the IP system, the hacker can't use our accout.

A sort of MAC protection in FFXIV, where we can choose the PC that are entrusted

People can play a sort of LAN party, where 2-3 person can enjoy FFXIV from the same room without the personal PC limitation.

Can SE remove this limitation that lock a character if people can try to log in from another computer?

Another bad thing is that if I have a laptop and try to log in from another place FFXIV block my account.
    Get security token. Problem solved.

Not everyone uses firefox though, every other web browser is not safe.

FFXI hundreds and hundreds of accounts where being stolen by keyloggers that where being planted on fan sites. Not one of the known virus programs where catching any of them.

Get one of those it does not matter if your password is "UncleBoB or asdfODP194VADAMMDIOE439348ZH" you would get hacked either way.

And while this may inconvenience someone, trust me having to deal with SE to unlock it... yea unless you where absolutely in love with this game it would make you quit in a heart beat. (you have to remember having the orriginal codes is not enough for SE to unlock the game, you have to get a notarized form and wait 3-4 weeks for them to act on it)

As others said get the token if you plan on playing for any duration of time, if not remember major corporations get hacked everyday through powerful firewalls. Your PC's security in the end is pointless if a hacker finds a loophole. The I never been hacked things is just that, you are lucky you are not really safe though.
