Why is race and nationality ignored so much in the lore? (why does the lore fail)

I'm from Gridania, i've done every quest, done every mission, talked to every npc in the world i believe.

I haven't really seen anything about the diff races. Like you had these cool descrips for normal miq'ote vs moonkeeper ones but then -nothing- in game.

Same with nationality. You have 3 cities but they barely talk about each other save for a few small mentions. I have no real idea about how ul'dah or limsa are run from any of the quests or storylines. There are all these random religions and beliefs which don't get discussed at all.

FFXI had distinct nations and distinct races all with interesting and well developed back stories, even from the beginning. It got you really immersed in the story line and everything.

FFXIV's story line isn't immersive at all. I mean -SPOILER ALERT-
    ---
    ---
    ---
Most of the main story had -nothing- to do with any of the cities. You went to like hidden adverturer groups to get tasks. I mean they prob could have pulled the main story off after you leave your home nation without even using the cities.
    -END SPOILER-

Does anyone else find the lore in the game to be random, discontinuous, and in essence, a failure?

I actually did find the story to be extremely random, disappointing and rather bland. Sure, it had some awesome cutscenes and a few good battles, but the story itself just wasn't there. What are the 3 cities? What are the races? How are they different? Who's a snob and who isn't? (Reference from FFXI where a taru calls all elvaans and Sandy citizens snobs)

It really is almost as if races and cities are extinct in this game. There is 1 race and 1 city....or at least that's how the story sets it up to be.

well first off everyone is on equal terms for the most part. in ffxi the three nations did have wars between each other and each race had its own starting city.

And also just a lil fyi.... on gardinia there is a pool of water north west from the arther crystal that you learn about the keeper of the moon miqote, the duskwight and wildwood elezen. But pretty much there isn;t much difference between the races this time. Only in appearence. Because it isn;t really set up how ffxi was. And the main story isn't really about each city it is mostly about those people with those funky tattoo's on there necks. But each city does have a different story. Likr gridania your trying to get rid of the woodsin while learn about moogles elementals and widlings. Ul'dah you learn that the human who died in the goobbue rampage had info from ala about the empire and that a secrete sociaty may have planed the rampage to begin with.
LL you leaen of the fish backs and how the musketeers and the pirate have a rivalry.

    Elvaan/Elezen are always the snobs

Agreed with OP though. A lot of it's been a letdown.

Unlike you, I haven't done all the quests. I think I've done only about 75% of them. Having said that, I do still have some vague idea of the general workings of the world. But that doesnt mean to say it is perfect. Like you said, there are definitely areas for improvement.

None of the stories are really worthy of participating in either. Like, my life is no better off for having done them. I learned almost nothing and I felt less than nothing.

only stories i really liked were the opo-opo journal one (which contributed nothing to the actual lore) and the goblin one (which once again contributed nothing to the actual lore)

your confusing lore with main story. Lore is about the world of the game. Not the main story currently taking place. Like you learn why beared rock is called beared rock. Which is infact lore of beaded rock.

You guys mix up words alot like immersion and lore, yet complain about my "lack" of understanding the english langue. >.> kinda silly.

yoshida said the quests were to learn more about the world we are in. Learning the tale of how beared rock was named is infact just that. We were not going to learn more about the main story from quests or the quests had any ties with the main story. You guys were the ones you misunderstood them.

quests dont create any immersion. the bearded rock name type lore is nice and would work if the game had a good overall lore (ex, more stuff on important things). But theres no sense of immersion in this game at all. FFXI did a FAR better job.

Rule of thumb: if you use the term "fail" in your post, chances are that the post is worthless.
Corollary to the rule of thumb: if you use the term "fail" in the topic of your post, the post if worthless for sure.

This thread exemplifies the above rule perfectly.

If you think the quests don't involve some great lore and some great writing, simply enough you didn't read them.

i'm sorry. one of the quests was like "zomg i made cookies, i want ppl to like my cookies, run around limsa and give 5 ppl my cookies and like totally /psyche them up about it"
How is that great lore? or great writing? or interesting in anyway. You literally just run around town for 10 min and /psych at 5 npcs who are like "nom nom good".....

this compared to ffxi in which a quest might have you watch a 5 min cutscenes with child elvaans talking about wanting to take part and help out in the war, the adults telling them not to, one of the kids running off to take on an orc, having to go save said kid from a crazy orc overlord, epic fighting, etc.

You have VERY low standards my friend.

    So my friend....
run around town and give people cookies
or save a headstrong kid from his stubborness to help protect a nation from a beastman onslaught.
