My test has the melds, this account is linked on my main.

Test account has AF2 head and body, HQ gryph boots and legs, Darklight hands and waist; HQ Gryph. neck and wrist with Rosegold screw meld accessories with DL Striking and Hero Slaying rings. My theories that I apply here are my way of experimenting pre-PVP release with what the limitations and excesses are with the class/job itself.

Yes I completely understand that it looks wild and misguided but there's always a method to my madness. We'll call it someone finding common ground moving from westernized RPG's to a MMOJRPG. It's impossible to re-establish old work flows since I can't rely on elemental or other aligned damage sources as heavily as other games that I am used to so I'm trying to see what I can do with what I have. Either way I am having a blast playing this game and I have a few good people working with me during these tests for best results. I will agree wholeheartedly though, my job isn't crowd control or enmity pulling or kiting or healing. Every monk I've played is strictly support to the party and reliable damage output with devastating burst dps to compliment the sustained dps I'm built for.

Is monk really as bad as people say?

theoretically they should have the best single target sustained dps.

Monk is an amazingly fun class with it's own unique challenges. The problem I am experiencing is trying to fight the normal/established builds with two-star overmeld gear. So far it's pretty obvious what the community favors more. I'll just bide my time and run my little experiments, although I stand by what I say, I think I am on to something here.

What i honestly think it is(and this is just an observation i see when grouping with other monks) is that almost every single monk is either missing cross class skills, reducing their dps, or simply do NOT do position combat outside of bootshine crit from behind.

This is absolutely insane, the amount of monks that i see that don't stack their dots or refresh them and don't positional combat is far too high. The insane damage potential of twin snakes and snap punch from flank combined with bootshine and true strike from behind is just too much to keep passing up throughout an entire encounter. You should be constantly moving between positions PERIOD. I also see ALOT of monks don't use dragonkick from the flank to debuff the enemy and get the damage bonus. I mean, it's just ridiculous.

This is why so many people think monks are bad DD, it's because they have no idea the true potential of the class.

I could say the same for a great deal of Dragoons that I've seen. Proper dps demands equal parts of positioning, stats, player skill and concentration/awareness. Even if you're going into a brand new fight the only thing that you've got to worry about is what your job is supposed to be anyways.

Also I'm getting a little frightened, I don't see many monks using Mantra. I mean, it's there to help the healer out and since it has a radius to it, a beat up tank would surely love the extra heal bonus. HOWEVER all of this is off topic.

You don't have to flank to get the blunt resistance debuff, its just a Opo Opo Form Debuff.

He means the damage bonuses more so than the actual debuff, imo.

I use it as a raid cooldown when i know theres going to be heavy damage coming out and people are stacked for it. it's pretty useful.

Insane damage potential of true strike? You must be confused on that one.
