Let us hope this shall become another 30+ pages of the meme "everyone is wrong no one is right" circle arguing ftw. Although I don't think a dev will chime in and repeat what Yoshi's already said.
Someone should pass along to developers working on new MMOs that they MUST have at least one expansion's worth of content on launch day. Having 9+ years of content on launch day would be preferable but not required.
I am also being sarcastic.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
There is a massive difference between "Having no content" and "I have the content but I dont feel like doing any of it". This is the case of the second one. What if people have no interests in leveling other classes or crafts?
Derp. This guy has done way more than other people, and yet, people STILL want everyone to do
every single thing in this game.
Yeah, the things have stories, I like the crafter stories and I like crafting, but eerrr...not a lot of people like to Boringly FATE grind
their way to 50 on other classes. No one wants to press 2 button for hours crafting.
Like I said, if he was all level 50, I would kneel before his statement and not have posted here at all. But he's not. No content means you finished everything there is to do in the game, which he has not. The content is there. Just because he doesn't seem to want to do any of the additional content was a choice made by him. It's not your fault, its not SE's fault, it's not my fault, its his for not wanting to do the other content that this game provides. The content is there, simply choosing to not do it doesn't mean there's no content :/
Of course Se don't realise that there is not enough content in the game.
therefore 2.1 is just a mini patch for fun with warrior buff and UI adjustment instead of a content update
/sarcasm
People really need to realize the difference between "content" and "content they want to do." I play like.... 8 hours every day. I have things to do every day. Not bored, plenty of content.
But for example when they will add PvP.. I hate PvP and I have no interest whatsoever doing it, so I'll just go meh, and skip it. Still doesn't mean they didn't add content, though. I just won't play it. Which is my choice. Your choice is to not do what is currently available. /shrug
Most recent RPG I played: Mass Effect TRILOGY. Total time played to complete each of the three games once but completing as much content as possible on the highest available difficulty setting (the one without beating the game once already) is about 110 hours (and I took my sweet time).
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Been playing since release for 10-20 hours per week. I levelled to 50 Armourer, Mining, Paladin. Levelled to 30 Bard. Levelled to 15: Goldsmith, Leatherworker, Alchemy, Conjurer. Completed the main story, did every levelling dungeon. Explored every area of Eorzea except a few dungeons I missed a room. Total time played: between 120 to 240 hours.
I am still missing crafting ilevel 70 armours, all primals hard mode, a level 50 dungeon and coil, a bunch of achievements, levelling my Chocobo companion to level 10 (she's at lvl5 now). All of that is considered prior to end game grinding to get ilevel 90 armour sets (I could grind for ilevel 70, but I want to craft it instead, makes it more challenging).
FFXIV:ARR needed about 1 to 2 times more time investment than 3 RPGs combined, which are considered decently long by today's standards in RPGs. That means 3-6 times more investment in time than a regular modern RPG.
Yup, FFXIV:ARR is too short.
I understand that people are bored or don't consider a game's storyline to be "content." However, this statement I don't really understand. Single player RPGs are intended to be a final/finite product (DLC is just icing on the cake, which may come out in spurts over the next year or so). MMORPGs are not.
I hear you that, for some, content seems fairly limited. Fine. But to compare FFXIV's (growing) content to that of a single player RPG doesn't make any sense. I think people forget that MMORPGs are released with the intention that expansions/content will be added later. The amount of content that is released at launch probably has a lot to do with how long they want the vanilla product to draw and sustain subscribers before they can release an expansion.
Whether THAT estimate was a good one is a different matter.
To be fair, the OP has every right to not want to do all of the content that is available to him. He bought the game and pays a sub just like the rest of us. Maybe he should have titled the thread "Does SE not realise their game has no content that I like?" That would have been a much more accurate portrayal of the point he is making.
OP, do yourself a favor, and go outside, meet some new people. Or maybe go see a movie, or maybe just play a different game. You need to give it time before more content that you like is added to the game, because clearly, you are only going to do 10% of what the devs add in future patches anyway.
