Thread: Fresh 50 Tank Gear guide? (PLD)

As a fresh 50 tank I have no idea in which direction to go with gearing. Obviously there is random drops but I'm referring more to the tomes/relic side of it. I'm not in a raiding FC so I'm essentially limited to WP/CM/Praetorium and as gear gets better AK and so on. I'm mostly just wondering if anyone has tips on which pieces to get first with my tomes. Does it really make a difference or should I just upgrade my worst pieces. I know I need 900 for my relic but i figure by the time i get to that point I'll have accumulated double that or more. I was looking at going 1. Chest/Head combo 2. Purchase Relic item or Gloves 3. Leg/feet Combo

Also what kind of progression can i look at with fresh gear?
Am I stuck to WP/CM/Praetorium or can I goto AK/Chimera/Hydra and HM's

Any advice or guidance would be great, thank you.

Assuming you just got done questing and you show up in Rev's Toll...You will be in AF. I would recommend making sure you have all the iLvl49 accessories or HQ version and get your grand company iLvl55 weapon. From there you can start farming your first upgrades.

Personally, I started by farming Ifrit until I got my Ifrit weapon and/or running WP/AK for gear drops and tomes. You can walk out of AK with 3 pieces of new gear if you are lucky. Along the way you can fill in your armor with WP/AK drops and save tomes as you go. The DL accessories give you the best upgrade for your currency out of all the DL stuff (but really get whatever pieces you want the most and be happy). A party can run through AK with AF and GC iLvl55 weapons. You don't have to have full DL and relic +1 that's just silly.

Once you have a primal weapon and some AK/DL gear you could go for your relic.

I have both a 50 PLD and 50 Whm. First, queuing up with random people in DF is going to be very difficult to begin with as a fresh tank jumping in with people wanting speed runs.

STAND YOUR GROUND. Know your limitations. If the group aren't asshats they'll be respectful. Just know, you're going to lose agro. There just is not a chance you're going to hold agro against 2 geared dps.

With finances in mind, buy as much top end gear as you can, as mentioned lvl 49 accessories, crafted armors, etc. I would recommend NOT trying AK. Queue for WP over and over and over and over again. 100Tomes per run just start equipping. I dont think one upgrade will be better than another, just start equipping from worst item up. Weapon plays a massive role so get Ifrit and Garuda down asap. As a PLD you'll be lucky in ifrit because you're a stunbot and should be easy to get your weapon. WP, WP, WP, WP, WP, WP, WP....um...WP?

Dont worry about your epic until it's time. By the time you're done with Titan you'll have more than enough tomes anyway and even if you dont. once you're geared and can do 20minute or less WP speed runs you can get 900 Philo's easily in an evening. Also, IMO, don't buy ANYTHING myth related. Get +1 first...myth tomes will take you 3 weeks to save for +1, start now.

Look here and scroll down to the "Primary Points (Vit) gained per 100 Myth points spent" heading. That's for upgrading from Darklight/Hoplite to Valor/Heroes gear.

I'd advise running WP until you have upgraded your AF armor (not accessories) to either Darklight or WP Vermilion gear. You should also aim to get at least the Grand Company level 50 weapon or the WP weapon. Don't let anyone try to tell you to speed run it, just pull one group at a time.

If you're feeling bored, run HM Ifrit a few times- you might even luck out and get the Weapon which is better than the above options.

Once you've upgraded your AF armor (and possibly a few accessories - though you can get by with just the cheap crafted level 47-49 NQ +Vit ones) then run AK. The gear drops are better and will fill any gaps you don't already have fitted out with Darklight.

After that, Start on HM Garuda and Titan for your Relic weapon.

Garuda is actually quite easy in terms of damage taken as long as you can reliably dodge "Slipstream", but having better gear gives you more of a buffer, especially if you end up solo-tanking it (so tanking both Garuda and one add at the same time). Titan is tough on everyone else in terms of dodging - but for a Tank it's a gear check for weathering "Mountain Buster" after the Heart phase.

I did a few WP and jumped into AK/Ifrit/Chimera. WP I have no problem with but in AK with +1/DL DPS they can pull hate. I assume keeping hate will get easier with gear, especially with my relic.


Also for myth progression

From what I see there Its Ring > Other Acc > Gloves/+1 > AF
I also already purchased the ring because of the upgrade it gives and how small the upgrade will be from relic to +1 in terms of the slot.


Or am I reading it wrong.
