Perfomance cap/lock while in areas with mass amount of players?

Ive noticed when im playing in normal areas where there next to no one my gpu runs at around 100% and i get good frames, roughly around 70-90 but when i get to an area such as a fate that needs alot of ppl to complete (Svara) or when i enter a town such as revenants toll, the frame rate goes to s***, BUT so does the percentage of how much resources and the such the game is using on the Gpu. its drops down to 30-40 % usage like a cap has been put on automatically depending how many players are in the area.

This cap is active when you start to here the mass player sound effects such as the chattering and the war cry's and all. Is there anyway to turn this automatic cap off so the gpu can use 100% so the frame rate doesn't go to the shi*s during these situations?

That would be due to a massive CPU bottleneck, especially with a GPU like the 780. Basically all MMOs have this problem and there is nothing you can really do about it--the game is "optimized" for 4 threads so the only thing you can try to do is overclock your CPU to help alleviate it (yes, I know the 3770k is an awesome proc, not even a 4770k or 4960x is going to eliminate or even dent the bottleneck). I could get a fresh 4770k, overclock it to 5ghz, and still have a severe CPU bottleneck on a high end card like the 770, 780, 780 Ti, or r290x at 1080p.

That depends. I don't CPU bottleneck in this game, I GPU bottleneck. I am currently running a 3.4ghz i7 3630QM. What clockrate is your CPU running at?

So the coding in the game is only utilizing 4 threads? No way to change that to utilize all 8 threads?

Nope no way to change it. But I would recommend finding a software that lets you monitor both CPU and GPU to see whats up.

the problem is coming from all the player related data that is taking over the data busses, CPU time, etc.. All the custom texture data, positions, actions and the level of physics being used to render them, etc.-- all of that has to run through to the card so it can be rendered. You're bogging down getting everything from your wire to the card to process it.

What we need is a slider for limiting number of characters drawn and/or drawing distance (something like they did in XI--except this time make it work properly).

Out of curiosity, does using bordless windowed make any difference? Our system are fairly comparable, but I haven't noticed any performance decreases even in masses of players.

Srsly. The ability to cut down on player count/draw distance would fix almost all the performance issues this game has in my experience.

In response to the guy/gal using a laptop, their CPUs are ironically pretty on par with desktop ones on the higher end models, but their GPUs are quite poor; a GTX 780M is nowhere on par with a GTX 780, 770, 680, or even a 670 for that matter (even though it costs over $500 and the 770 is currently ~$350). So GPU bottle-necking on a laptop is not surprising--FFXIV is an extremely GPU intensive MMO when you don't have 30+ player models to deal with.
