    Game fails to launch after patch, Access violation after update.

    I tried to play tonight and a small patch was installed, after which my game would no longer start. The game window loads up to a black screen before locking up, resulting in a "Stopped working" error message from windows. Running debug got me the following exception.

    Unhandled exception at 0x009C4526 in ffxiv.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000.

    Same error running in Administrative mode. I'm running Windows 8.1

    The patch broke the game for many players it seems, hopefully the devs are looking in to this.

    Uninstalling the 5 patches identified in your link did not resolve the issue.

    Update all of your drivers. The problem is likely with your system. If the patch was just plain broken then it wouldn't work for anyone, which it does. (That came out wrong. The problem is most likely related to a software conflict occurring on your system and those of certain others also experiencing a problem)
    I have a fully patched Win7 x64, ASUS Crosshair-V Formula Z Thunderbolt board running an AM3+ CPU with the latest drivers and BIOS, and an HIS HD6950 with CCC fully up to date; the game runs fine (I'm not bragging, just saying). The problem likely resides in a driver compatibility issue on your end that will be a quick fix. (yes, yes. SE should have coded for every driver known to man, I know.). Anyway, it is most likely a software problem that you can fix yourself fairly readily. Best of luck, and don't forget to unistall old drivers before reinstalling them! Hell, reinstall them anyway. The game stopped talking to my M90 mouse drivers after the update, and a quick reinstall had me up and running again in no time.

    Updated NVidia to the latest release drivers. All my other drivers are up to date (installed windows fresh less than a month ago). Still unable to start the game. I've tried:
    • Uninstalling latests Windows updates
    • Disabling Firewall/anti-virus
    • Updating Drivers
    • Running in compatability mode/admin mode (various combinations)
    • Uninstalling recent development changes I've made, such as removing environment variables that were recently added, and removing DirectX SDKs.
    If there are any other ideas, I'll give them a go. But it's looking like I'll be trying to get a refund if this isn't resolved soon :/

    The game finally started working today, but I'll be unsubbing. Customer support from Square Enix is utter garbage, and they refuse to credit the 2 weeks I was unable to play, despite the fact that it was there patch which rendered me unable to access this payed service. I am thankful for the help those here tried to provide, but Square Enix doesn't seem to want to put any effort towards keeping me here.
