We have HNMs. They're called Behemoth and Odin. Granted, we need more, and I'm sure there will be more. 2.1 will address one of the main issues that makes them unplayable (being unable to see/target them or your party members).the game feels so bland in many ways right now, HNMs would spice up Eorzea, yes people fought over them but as I have said before, at least there was something to actually fight over.
FFXIV feels like a kids baseball league nowadays, even if the team loses they get a trophy.

I meant HNM in terms of dropping endgame gear.

I miss camping behemoth in FFXI, sure we waited hours for the spawn and went days, weeks or even months without claiming, but when we did claim it, it was exciting and thrilling and also created memories that will last forever.
My Linkshell camped Fafnir for years, and we only claimed it a few times, and only killed it once in those few years, but it made it an event that i will never forget. The build up of finally claiming it made me shake with excitement. Nothing has come close in XIV to this feeling.
But now everyone wants there gear and they want it now, no patience, and what do we see because of this? 1000 people standing in revenants toll all in the same gear, same stats, with all the best gear in a matter of a couple months...
Variety is the spice of life! i just hope they bring it to Eorzea.

Lots of fun, very functional, great drops, etc. Great example of FFXIV's HNM system. (Yes, this is sarcasm)
I still see the same generic "long respawn timers" concept being thrown out there every other page. Has anyone read the OP I posted (in the 1.0 thread)? None of us want the 21-24 hour spawn times. None of us was 3 hour windows.
But having a 2 hours NM, maybe a 6 hour HNM; Is that really so mind-blowingly bad to you? Is someone forcing you to camp it with us? While I completely understand that some of you don't like to even fathom camping an NM, some of us enjoyed it. What is forcing you to come out and camp with us? Notorious Monsters were an absolute staple of FFXI, and brought endless amounts of fun and content along with it. Now, was there frustration? Of course. What aspect of any MMO doesn't bring frustration? Open World content needs to be balanced with Instanced Content.
And the comment about FATE NMs... I can't really take that seriously. A quick time event, with a "notorious monster" with no drops, and no other purpose outside of EXP? It may have the name of a notorious monster, but I'll refer to that as EXP.

But seriously, Odin and Behemoth are probably the closest you're ever going to get, so may as well deal. It's pretty obvious that square's plans for notorious monsters and similar content do not and will not extend beyond the FATE system.
