Making every single good piece of gear drop from only instanced dungeons defeats the purpose of having a huge, sprawling open world. What good is a huge, beautiful open world if you have nothing to do in it?

In my person opinion, I absolutely loved the smaller 1-2 hour NM's. I could grab some bonecrafting supplies, head to the camp and craft after I (or someone else killed), and just stop crafting when it was ready to spawn, rinse/repeat.

XI had an amazing NM/HNM system that catered to all walks. You had dynamis/Limbus/Einherjar/etc for your instanced raid fans. You had kings/ZNM/Force Pops/etc for your open world content fans. There was choices on what content you wanted to tackle. Sure the 21-24 hour spawns were terrible. But is there great groundwork from XI to build upon? Absolutely.

The grey area should be lifted and the focus should be on more content for all walks, not just purely instanced content.

I like how they handled NM's in 1.0. I'd like that to return.

It was like a better version of XI's, imo.

It wasn't bad, but better than XI's? imo, I think not.

I would most definitely love to see these NMs come back, absolutely. But I want these NM's, and more NM's. Forced pop NMs. More instanced NMs. HNMs. Lottery Spawn NMs. Just more NMs. Give me a reason to go out in the open world outside of EXP.

I used to love heading to Upper Delkfutt's tower to farm Jotunns and hope for a moldy buckler to drop. And then if I was lucky enough to get one, hope that Alky would drop me some bracelets. And even if I didn't get this, I could desynth gigas socks and make a little bit of gil even if I didn't get what i was after. And these mobs were easy enough that I could come and mess around on my classes that I didn't get to use much. nin/dnc with klcub! FFXIV would use an open world time-sink/farming system/nm system/etc etc.

I'm not after a specific set of NMs. I would just love more open world content period.

I hope they add rare pops of Notorious Monsters in dungeons, and in fates with rewarding item drops. Maybe open world NM's when/if the population is lower.

I think if they had high value open world NM's currently you'd almost be required to cheat if you wanted the item. Especially on a high population server like Excalibur.

I completely understand the fears over cheating/botting. But instead of instantly shooting down content because we are afraid of cheaters, why not offer better solutions to nullifying the ability to cheat?

Why not do incredible spawn areas? For instance, lets use fafnir as example. What if it was his time to pop, and you saw him flying overhead, and had to wait until he landed in a completely random area to claim him?

How about pop items to spawn NMs? I'd love to have to go into an area with friends and slaughter level 50-60 monsters and try to get a pop item to get an NM.

Instantly turning down content due to fears of cheating from a prior MMO makes me a little sad. Instead of shooting everything down, why can't alternative methods to open world NM spawn/timing standards be introduced?

You're right Patriarch. I think there are probably ways to make it work. Pop items, untradeable drops, make NM's uncampable, etc. I was sort of thinking 2005 style FFXI NM.

Having a rare spawn mob is hardly going to make people explore the world.
People would find out its possible spawn locations, then camp at one of them with a bot program running to kill it. If not bots, you'd get piles of semi afk people sitting at spawn locations waiting for the pop.

Seen the first Lightning FATEs? Yeah, you'd get the groups like just sitting around waiting for the NM to spawn.

I don't even like the way Odin and Behemoth work as FATEs. It's only difficult to get good ranking due to the number of players.

I really think the Chimera is the best example of a system we could use instead of having them as rare pop mobs, or FATEs.
Simply have them spawn in, people would then form a party and challenge it and be taken to a zone like the one we get for Chimera.
Time limited, only possible to access the fight for 90 minutes, and once in, you get 90 minutes to fight it. Unique appearance item drop.

Under such a system, it could spawn on a 100% random timetable.

I would love to see NM and HNM! They'd have to implement them in better then FFXI...even as a hardcore gamer I don't want to revolve my life around a HNM. The way they were in 1.0 was pretty cool...I love the ones that would spawn with certain weather effect or time of day ^^ It would be especially neat to see the force pop NM...those are awesome. We need stuff like sea, sky, dynamis etc! I think also it would be nice if they let us buy pops for NM with our GC seals ^^

    Ideas? Suggestions?
Other than force popped or instanced fights (e.g. chimera) NM/HNM in the traditional sense just won't work in this game. The claim system in the game kind of cancels the drama/competition HNM fans crave, and certain technical issues need to be addressed before FATE HNMs can be any kind of fun experience.

For normal NMs, they're still NMs- just because there's a big blue circle marking their location when they pop doesn't mean they aren't NMs.

Instantly turning down content due to fears of cheating from a prior MMO makes me a little sad.
Well, it was a huge problem. It's not the thrill of competition that I didn't like so much as the cheating. Any NM in this game, the best solution is to slap a fate bubble over it and let anyone be rewarded if they participate enough, since the claim system doesn't really allow XI style NMs anyway.

BCNMs, force pop NMs, etc are fine. FATE NMs are fine (once certain issues are addressed). super long pop time NMs with "spawn windows" and stuff, no thanks.
