Really really hawk those elemental DoT's, guys. They're Con's best bet

So I needed a shellsplitter and venerer's bracers, but was dreading fighting the crab because I've heard the fight takes forever solo.

    It has about 30,000 hp.
I stacked all 6 elemental DoT II's on him with shockspikes to see if I could just bleed him in between cures.

He died in 3 and a half minutes using no other damage. 30,000 HP in 3.5 minutes, simply with DoT's.

It's pretty MP-heavy and a little...inglorious...but I don't think any other job can really take it down that quickly.

That ability to take that much life is probably why the elemental DoT's take so much MP, not that they really increase spike damage from nukes.

Anyway, this is probably Con's best bet, and much better than hitting uraeus for humiliating nuke damage.

Nope. They are the most powerful spells in the game for overall damage. I use the CON DOTs on my THM all the time.

they are a waste on SP/Leve mobs as they usually tend to die really fast. They are really good against NM or mobs that take a long time dying.

Only against NMs and high rank enemies, since DOT damage ignores dlvl in its calculations.

Against leve mobs, just nuke or dart em to death.

Individually they are a waste, as they don't increase their elemental nuke's damage enough to merit casting them. But stacked they essentially do more damage on bosses than you can doing tier nuke rotations, for just a little more MP.

If there are two cons in the party, maybe one does DoT element rotations and the 2nd does nukes. This is an auto-balanced system even though it's pretty crazy DoT, because functionally they can't be stacked by simply adding more cons.

Keep in mind that the results won't be so spectacular on higher dLVL-check mobs, because the DoT stick rates and duration that they last will be lower. Essentially you will have to burn more MP, or add a 2nd conjurer, if you can't keep all the DoT's up.

By my estimates at Six arms' dlvl check I can keep a full series of elemental DoT's running, or a reasonable amount pending missing and having to cure myself, for about 15 minutes before I'd run out of mp. Again, it's MP intensive but well worth it.

In this 3.5 minute fight, I use about 60% of my initial mana pool. That's whith spiritbind and siphon.

Add in spirit darts, and I can kill Six arms solo right after my shockspikes wears off. Or about 3 minutes flat.

    Beat that!

Well shoot I don't know where I looked up its HP, but it seems to only have 11k.
Makes it quite a bit less impressive but oh well.

I'm curious how effective stacking Profundity II and Roaming Soul on a DoT like Shock II would be. For an enemy like six-legs, the Lightning-based DoT would be the most damaging, so with +50% (guessing here) damage per tick from Profundity and +50% duration, adding those two modifiers would results in double damage per cast. If it left a hole in the casting rotation, I'd toss in some Thunder / Thunder II hits.

Any sense of whether Profundity affects Shock II damage, elemental debuff, both, or neither?

I don't think elemental resistance affects DoT damage directly, and it doesn't seem like magic potency has anything to do with it.
I think that magic accuracy is the dominant factor in DoT's, and it's only in the resist, normal, or criticalling of that DoT. The criticals last longer, and because they last longer, they do more damage.

Not sure though. That's mostly just speculation.

My guess is that if anything affects how well elemental DoT performs, it's the magic accuracy enhancing abilities.
