Does this game truly need minmaxing?

I found some threads, talking about BiS of various classes.
All of them seems to lead to a mix of allagan and myth. Ending up with a idiot crappy look, and...BiS stats..right..

Why, i wonder. Coil better runs maybe? Oh please.
A run with full AF2 gear set (accessories included) and a run with full allagan set (accessories included) both gives to the player god-like performance (now add lv50 HQ food), perfectly able to handle coil till the end, turn 5 included.


Beware: this is not a thread about math: would lead to an endless discussion about which stat is better maxed , blah blah.
My goal? A complete Myth set for this WHM, and allagan set for bard. Hoping it drops , when i get myth capped (time to use them) i will probably take a look to an other class where myth gear is nice , and i enjoy that class (BLM probably).
Honestly, do you prefer that crappy look, or just work towards a complete set, enjoying the look of your char?

If someone got lost: the core of the thread was: take care of your look, more than lead our community to the boring rule "minmax or nothing" on this game where minmax is not needed at all
Some crafted armor fullset are so cool. And even not minmaxing you will perform good enough to enjoy the content
Minmax if and when possible, if you're so fond to it. But don't pretend to turn this game and our community like some "well know" cesspool mmo out there where "minmax rule or kick"
On this game, minmax is not the key. ilvl 90 armor and you're done with your beloved "endgame", time to make your char cool

p.s stick to the present, this thread was made today, and today we don't have vanity system online, we don't need an other post "meh soon vanity system will be online, who cares"

I'd never care about min/max so my Firagas hit for maximum damage (1600) instead of not maximum damage (1550). I'd rather look like my job.

as a bard i avoid allagans as much as i can, even trough the look is better, the critical is horrible, end every time i cast an skill and don't crit, i fell like i failed.

Coil is much more position, hp to avoid hk, and know how to decent rotate ur skill+silence them having high gear... dps does help since battle will end faster, for example last time we defeated coil 4 taking only 2-3 pulses because dps was insane high... but even w/o that we could had done.

That's the point And well, look cool with a complete set is priceless. It means you spend 5 months of myth farm, also means you mastered Coil till puke, dealing with RNG gods, getting a complete set. Isn't it a better satisfaction compared to 1600 damage instead of 1550?

People who min-max often focus on end game content, devouring content as fast and effective as possible, and that's where their enjoyment lies in the game.
Not everyone has to mix-max in order to do content, you can clear plenty of the content in a full set of X gear, though you won't be doing it as efficiently as you could be.
You can play dress up all you like.. You have the people who want to stay ahead of everyone else and the one's who don't worry too much.

Complete a set , as i wrote, meant 5 months of farm, and mastered Coil. 5 months of pure dedication to that particular class wearing him all till the last myth piece, RNG gods for complete allagan set may take longer.. (now add the lockouts) but well..
No wonder even on 2.1, Coil will remain the real endgame raid. Months and months will pass before one of us will complete the set (weapon included).

I still prefer a complete set, and love my look more than be a patchwork/clown with different sets mixed up

Way of play i guess, like Phaus said. Some may truly love numbers and that 1599 better than 1598 hehe
