Duty Finder 'range' / Server Zones?

Hi,

I've tried to look up some definitive information, but couldn't find anything consistent.

What's the 'range' of the duty finder?

- Some News/Blog posts state that the pairing is worldwide.
- Others state it's limited to the datacenters. (If so, are EU/NA unified, since the servers are at the same place as far as I know?)
- Again others state that the pairing, even inside the datacenters, is limited to arbitrarily created server groups of roughly equal size, to reduce the server load generated by the duty finder.

Which one is true? Also: The posts / news talking about server groups inside the data centers seem to be older. Was the behavior changed at some point?

From my understanding, it use to be worldwide, and then with the issues they had with AK taking 20 minutes.. and the bog down on their duty servers, they ended up splitting all the servers into groupings. They're listed here (I think that's current anyway):

It was never worldwide. It was originally per Datacenter. ie all JP servers DF'd together and all NA/EU DF'd together. Now, however, each Datacenter is split into groups. So depending on which server you're on, you'll only get people from a certain selection of other servers. I know Excalibur gets people from Shiva and a few others, but I don't ever see the other Legacy servers at all.

Yes it used to be all JP servers were one DF grouping and all the NA/EU servers were all one DF grouping. But the release was a smashing success! and SE had to open new servers for both JP and NA/EU. This need to open new servers wouldn't work for their original DF grouping set up as the DF couldn't handled the load of the extra servers. So when they added the new servers they split the DF groupings into the groups that Sunarie linked.

Not seen a single Japanese player in DF and been playing since game was available.

Pity, I always liked teaming up with them in XI. Auto-translate was fantastic.

In beta 3 i had 2 jp groups in df. Since beta 4 none at all. Athough according to some stats there are some jp players playing on na/eu servers. Not like it matters now, especially when i cant use ` key to change input to japanese anymore (ps3).

I wish it were international. My friends are on JP servers and since I have no problems with Japanese input (being on a PC) communication isn't a problem either. Still: Having to wait 30 to 60 minutes for a Castrum Meridianum group to form at 8:30 pm (my time) in the DF while being a healer does hurt. :/ Well, nothing to be done about that I guess. (Nothing except hoping this might change at some point in the future, but I suspect they have other priorities now.)

It won't change. And the reason is the distance. They won't DF between the datacenters, since which side is the instance server going to be? JP side? NA/EU side? One side or the other is going to get a hefty latency bump if they did that, at least in instances.
