Quick Question About Gathering Tools...

I am now rank 10 in Botany and Mining! So when doing fieldcraft leves should I start doing rank 10 or do I need to buy better tools? If so are they the secondary tools I need? Thanks for any help!

What I am going to say might not be 100% right since I do not have a tremendous os experience in gathering jobs but to answer the question, secondary tools gives you another gathering option and is not needed improve you primary tool (except for the stats on it that might help). What I mean is like for say Botany, your primary tool is a hatchet to get logs and branches, your secondary tool is a scythe to gather herbs and plants. So they open more options for gathering but buying a secondary tool will not make you better at the job (can't use your scythe for loging trees) except again that the stats on it might, for gathering it would be +output I think.

Also buying better tools will help you again because they will have better stats on them.

Word, understood. So maybe I should get a better Primary tool then cuz I only get like 1 chop on grade 3 and like 3 chops on grade 2.

thats because of your rank I think more than the tool you use. When you rank up you get more chops from lower grades (at least that's what I experienced and I never upgraded my tools)

Tossing this in to help clarify:

1) you are only required to have the primary tool for gathering to change to that class or participate in gathering leves.

2) The secondary tool allows you to harvest from secondary-exclusive nodes (Quarrying for Miners, Spearfishing for Fishers, and Harvesting for Botanists). The SP and number of hits per node is usually lower with secondary, but the items usually are in higher demand.

3) your secondary tool when equipped does not "pad" your stats. (i.e. having a scythe (offhand) with +5 harvesting will not apply the +5 bonus if you are logging a tree (mainhand), AFAIK)
