    Noob questions

Noob to FF but been playing MMOs for 8 years, just a couple questions. I do understand this is a new game and as such wont be as polished as others. So far its cool.
First, is there a general chat? havent seen a way to do this
Second, having trouble running out of quests, just doing fates.....am in Noscea outside LL as a lvl 12 now and just running everywhere I can thats not suicide. Really dislike the map so is there a helpsite that has a decent mapping of quests and/or questing areas?
Thirdly, havent seen where to learn crafting so guess I just missed it, is the equivalent of blacksmithing able to make good gear and weapons?
Thx for indulging me, just a bit lost atm

3)to unlock other guilds you have to finish your level 10 Marauder quest..it will say when you can join other guilds.

1)There's a chatbox down in the bottom left of your screen, not sure if that's what you mean

2)I'm not sure how you could be out of quest already but that shouldn't be a problem for awhile but I use this website for lots of needed information http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Ca...Scenario_Quest

    Welcome to Eorzea!

    1. If by 'General Chat' you mean 'area wide chat channel that everyone participates in', FFXIV doesn't actually have anything like that - the closest is the /shout command, where what you type is heard within that immediate area. But a lot of people have disabled receiving /shout messages as RMT are using it for spamming gilselling messages.

    2. Quests are usually unlocked by level and main storyline progression - the higher your level and the further you get in the story, the more quests are unlocked. Unfortunately though, quests are not able to be repeated - once you've done a particular quest, it's done forever. Instead, there are what are called 'levequests' or 'guildleves', which are basically a repeatable quest stripped of dialogue and running around, and basically amount to completing a specific task in a certain time. Levequests are automatically unlocked by completing the level 10 main story quest in your starting city, the same quest that also unlocks the Inn. You then have to speak to a specific NPC called a 'levemete', who is a person with a card icon over their heads to undertake a levequest.

    3. Crafting classes (called 'Disciples of the Hand') have to be unlocked the same way you unlock other melee (Disciples of War) and mage (Disciples of Magic) classes - by gaining level 10 in your starting class, completing the level 10 class quest given by your class's Guild (this unlocks the Armoury System fully), and then going to the Guild of the respective crafting class you wish to join and joining up by speaking to the Receptionist and then the Guildmaster. You then can change to that crafting class the same way you would change to a melee or mage class - by equipping the class's tool into your weapon slot. Harvesting classes (Disciples of the Land) are also learned in the same way.

Hopefully this hasn't been too confusing for you.

Thanks, sadly I have no idea about crafting, unlocking etc or unlocking other classes, struggling to find decent info online. Theres alot of general stuff but not alot of specifics. Lol and yes I am noticing just constant gold spammers, ruins communication and theres no way of reporting it so im guessing they dont at this point care to stop it. Bad thing is then that it limits the ability to communicate with other players and form groups making it a much less social game. For people like me who dont really know anyone it makes it a single player game. How then do people find a guild if theres no comm? You werent confusing at all, the map kinda makes it confusing to know whats what and where to go. I guess I just dont have the patience anymore to just run around finding things lol.

There's a chat box at the bottom left of the screen. You can filter it to shout (entire map), yell (smaller area), or say (anyone standing in sight on you). When you join a free company, you can switch the filter to that chat and the same when you join a party. There are also Link Shells which are like a group chat. All communication is done from the chat box.

To join a free company, you can go to any major city and watch for people shouting, advertising their FC. Tell that person and ask to join. Or you can go to the forum for your server which is always filled with FC advertisements.

You're on Brynhildr, so here you go: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/966-Brynhildr

I second that. A link shell will generally have a decent number of people at a variety of levels to do general chat and also help with game related content if need be. You can have several different link shells so it is not like committing to a free company (payers guild).

I dont know exactly when it is, but you either have it now, or will within a level or two, but there is a recommendation window you can find it under the duty>recommendations. there is also an option in the system menu under character configuration window then UI settings where you can have it pop up when you first log in and another option to reset itself everytime you zone in. it helps in the beginning to let you know everything that there is to do in your current zone, ie: side quests, story quests, hunting log targets, and fates (later on it will show instances you are high enough to take part in)

Hope that helps and welcome to the realm!

How I see the new abilities:
Asylum - Get ready for my holy spam because that's the only healing you gonna get.
Aero III - I guess I should put some dots up before holy spamming.
Assize - I need more MP to spam holy even more, also stop getting hit in the face.
Tetragrammaton - I guess I should heal that tank now.
Stone III - There's less than 3 mobs left alive. - Ragns Meuhie

As far as learning a new class (including crafting) goes, first you'll want to do your level 10 class quest back in town (You receive class quests every 5 levels from your guild, up until 30 when you get the job questline). Once you've done this, you unlock the armory system. Then you just go to any guild (such as the blacksmith guild in Limsa Lominsa,) talk to the receptionist at the desk, and sign up to join the guild. This will give you the first class quest for that class, as well as a level 1 weapon/tool for the class.

To change classes, it's as simple as equipping a weapon/tool you have the level to use. So equip that level 1 hammer and you get to start up blacksmithing. Do note that, unlike other games, crafting and gathering professions in this game are full fledged classes with quests and gear that must be upgraded.

Finally, I do recommend that IF you start crafting and gathering, that you wait until level 15 when you can use airships, then get all the crafters and gatherers and level them up equally. That way you can get any materials you need yourself, and also until level 50 every single crafter uses the same armor and every single gatherer uses the same armor. So instead of having to get the same armor every time you get a class in the right range, you can just use it on all the people who need it before getting rid of it.
