A rant by me...

Hello, today I would like to share with you some of my thoughts! Over the past few weeks, I have been seeing some things that have really annoyed me! Some people seem to think that they know everything and they are the Messiah of all things FFXIV. Maybe that is a bit over-dramatic, but you get my point.

These are the things that are on my mind:

Need does indeed not equal want.

While this is true, who are any of you to say what this game needs? Are you a professional game developer for a triple A company? These very forums were created for suggestions and feedback, everything you post on here is a want and not a need, we do not need anything, not a single thing you post. Sure, this game may flop, but that is the point I am trying to make. Taking in suggestions is what is making this game turn out to be better, gradually.

Please don't tell me that things aren't needed, you can argue any and every suggestion on these forums is not something that is needed. Wants, not needs are what is going to make this game better. The only "need" is player feedback and suggestions.

Yes, it's true, this is Final Fantasy XIV and not any other MMO.

So you've played other MMOs? Five? Ten? Twenty? Just because you don't like something in one MMO doesn't mean that SE can't make it work in this game in a way that everyone can enjoy. Let's take the jump war for example. Some people are for it, some are against it. While I agree that jumping isn't something that is required right this very moment, we have been given no details about it at all, only that they will be evaluating it. Why don't you wait until they give us some details before you start prophesying the end of the world. Have some faith in the game developer we all love.

I speak for myself. "We" equates to yourself alone.

Seriously, I make my own decisions, I am the only one that speaks for myself. So please, stop acting as if you are the voice of the entire community, you aren't. Some people may agree with you, sure, but there are those that disagree with you as well. When you claim to be the voice of the community or even a large group/majority of players, to me, you look arrogant and ignorant.

Facts are separate from opinions.

I simply love it when people preach their own opinions as facts. Not. Such as, what will make this game fun. Again, who are you to say what will make this game more fun? Your opinion is your own, and you don't speak for the entire community. Different people get their kicks off different things. This is a MMO, something designed to attract a variety of people from different backgrounds, and that, in turn, have different tastes. Sorry if that offends you, but its the reality of not even MMOs, but the internet and even the world in general.

This is by no means a personal attack against anyone. I am just tired of people assuming they know whats best for me and for the game I love and would love even more to see improved.

No single person will make this game amazing, it takes everyone, from the developers to the community.

Thank you for reading, sorry if I have offended you in any way. These are my own opinions, and you are free to criticize me as much as you want, though I may just bite back.

This thread may get spammed with reports, and it may get taken down. That doesn't really bother me, as long as I can get this out to a few people.

I think that's a fair interpretation.

I see it as an attempt to focus the community into a positive and constructive effort rather than negative and destructive, but with poorly chosen words that border on offensive to a certain group of people.

I guess considering what little thought was put into your original post I shouldn't have expected you to put any into mine so I'll break it down for you. You said that players that post on the forums aren't experienced enough to suggest what the game needs(How you are able to know the extent of a posters experience is beyond me, but I'll let that part slide).

My point was that players said this game needed an official forum(And it did) and they have been very vocal about other issues as well. Just because someone doesn't develop a game doesn't mean they don't know what makes a game good, if this were true then video game critics and reviewers would be out of a job as no one would respect their opinion. On the flip side, who is to say what makes a developer good? You know how many crappy games SE and OTHER triple A developers have put out? With the way the game was released I would argue they are the ones who don't know what makes a game good(No mailboxes, mounts, battle system to name a few)

So I'll close with this: The developers need the players feedback as much as players need the developers. It is what makes an MMO grow and become successful.

Your definition of "need" is flawed. FFXI survived 8 years without an official forum.
Why did XIV need one when XI didn't?

Need is based on necessity. In order to progress and compete with modern MMOs a forum may be necessary, but how can you determine that? I would say, it could only gain from a forum, but it didn't explicitly need one.

It's a semantic argument, but that's all TC's argument was in my opinion.
