Wasn't that expensive. At least not for leveling if you used holy/acid bolts . As for crafting, if you did it smartly, you could gain money while leveling woodworking until you could HQ Holy/acid bolts. And Bow rangers mostly used scorpion arrows for TP, and they where also fairly cheap. No thanks to the 'elite' bought class. I despised how Ranger was handled in FFXI. Only those that had heavy pockets could play that class or fund their crafting to carry those ammo costs. What a messed up system. XD
It was only against sky gods that it cost me, used silver bullets there. But then my LS sold all crafting drops, so usually gained gil from it.
Anyway, I liked Ranger in XI. The status bolts added versatility to the class. Have to say I hated the class after the nerf though.

I thought Yoshi would have had it where you could equipped an ammo type... (eg blunt arrow, poison arrow, healing arrow, fire arrow...etc) and we still have the infinite use like we do now, but we would just have to purchase that initial arrow type to use/equip.
This would open up the class/job more, add more customization. And give crafters' something to create for all ammo based classes/jobs.
But it seems he has it were the skill being used, makes the arrow change to that said property/stat/buff/debuff. This is the way it is for archers bards. Hopefully any other ammo based class/job will see something like I mentioned above, to add more thinking to the way we arm them.

"You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war."
the devs already answered this question, why are we still discussing this?????
I think this is the worst idea I've ever read.

To the people saying non-consumable arrows hurts "realism". Try thinking about the difference between "Player Knowledge" and "Character Knowledge"
Player Knowledge is that arrows are non-consumable for reasons of game mechanics and "quality of life"
Character Knowledge is that you are an adventurer who specializes in ranged combat, you don't have a "magic quiver" you instead had the presence if mind to bring enough arrows with you because you're NOT an idiot!
Huzzah! Realism restored!
