Thought it also had been tested/proved that Ifrit damage used the SMN's STR-at-casting in the equation, while Garuda used INT? And/or that Ifrit tests against PDef, while Garuda tests against MDef? Anyone got enough STR gear to test?
I would think such a test not the best use of a summoner's time. Why, ever, would you want to use STR gear over INT gear? Even if it actually raised Ifrit's DPS, it would lower all your other DPS.
That silly

Oh, I don't disagree that full-timing STR gear would be...silly, but if it makes a difference to Ifrit, would it be be worth it to summon in a STR set, then switch to an INT set?
...gearset creep, I know.
I can understand your thinking here, but you can't switch gear in combat and even if you're just trying to snapshot a certain stat onto Ifrit, there are several buffs and abilities (spur, fey illumination?) that will re-snapshot the pet back to what you're currently wearing, usually making it not worth it in the first place (or having a very limited use).
No, Ifrit uses INT.
PDef/MDef is a non-issue because they do the same damage to all mobs.
