Putting Cleric on gives a 20% healing penalty also
Doing that would make you worse at both dpsing and healing... Cleric stance will shift your mnd to int AND give 10% more damage... but if you went high int and used cleric stance to heal... you would at best have a few more points in mnd (at best because you would have to use the ilevel 60 gear to use int gear as a sch) but would also have a -20% healing for being in cleric stance.
Oh so I'm way off base lol.. I forgot about the healing penalty with CS.. My bad. So are you supposed to stick with either SCH or SUM or can you effectively switch back and forth depending on which one you would rather play with at the time?
You can switch back and forth(outside of instances)... you can either split your stats 15/15 and and be about 2.5% worse than someone stacking all of one for either class... Or you can go with all mind or all int and be full potential on one class but about 5% worse on the other... I personally went full mnd because I enjoy healing more than dpsing on smn, and having the 30 mnd on smn can still be of some use (healing is a little less worthless and could save a group in some dungeons) where as the int on sch has no use at all (due to cleric stance).
But you do have to pretty much have 2 gear sets, one for each class.
DPS? You don't need no stinkin DPS!Meh. I'm betting that with the right group of DPS'ers I can solo heal Titan as a scholar. Virus+SS knocks down the stomps to the low 500s. With swiftcast you can get full use of shield x2 (thus equal to Medica). Use the Virus rotation to regain mana by blowing Aether stacks.
Note of fairness: Doing so is easier for WHM. Also sheer raid recovery if stuck in gaol will be faster.

If you play both equally, you could do 50/50 INT/MND and make up the rest in gear. The 30 points in stats doesn't make an intense amount of difference. You can typically equal it in 2-3 peices of gear. If you play SCH even slightly more than SMN though, you will likely want to go with MND. ACN in general gets several points of +INT trait while leveling. That should compensate for much of the extraneous MND you have from being a SCH.
I saw a lot of comments about SCH bragging they can solo heal Titan. I'd like to point out that WHM can solo heal Titan HM also.
Don't want new people coming here and seeing a SCH bias.
Since people also want to rely on pure experience, my experiences in raids (AS both SCH and WHM) I use Benediction to save more lives than I do Lustrate. Lustrate sucks on anyone BUT the tank. It will heal less than OR equal to the SCHs Physick. WHM Cure II heals basically the same amount as a Lustrate on a tank. The difference is that Lustrate costs no mp and is instant, cure II has a high MP cost and requires a cast. Lustrate also can't crit.
Each are better in certain areas, if original poster can't handle what being a WHM entails, then by all means become a SCH.
Stop trying to be the best healer in every situation. It is okay to just trust your party (Sometimes >.>) and let the other healer do what your class can't.
Saying Sch+Sch doesn't work but Whm+Whm does is old.
This is an idea from back when everyone was fresh 50.
Truth is, Sch + Sch is only bad at aoe heals (Titan, less optimal still doable)
In 2 tank fights where both need 1 healer there isn't much wrong with 2x Sch.
You can go through Coil 1-5 using 2x Sch and probably have less issues than 2x Whm teams.
Name a fight outside Titan, where EVERY person takes unavoidable aoe dmg same time? (Titan can be solo healed by 1 Sch)
2x fairy (with rouse) + 2 sch = 4 simultaneous heal targets, will fix the party up np.
Imo with good gear Sch+Whm > Sch+Sch > Whm+Whm
When comparing Sch vs Whm, Sch scales much better with gear in the long run.
A Whm doesn't need to be as geared, cuz that mostly results in overheals where gear on sch = bigger shields/fairy heal.
When Sch is geared out (+1 and mostly ilvl90) it is the better healer, yet at that point either healer is overkill for any content currently in game.
Everyone knows that ACN was born to wear the Giant Falic symbol of power. Answer throw all your points into INT and rock that badboy horn all up and down the streets of Eorzea like a boss!
You haven't been around here long enough. The previous argument was that SCH sucked because WHM could solo heal Titan whereas SCH's couldn't. Clearly that party was wrong, hence why pointing it out now is perfectly valid.
Point taken about Benediction, but if you are using it to save a non-tank something very odd happened. Thus, the comparison of Lustrate to Benediction on tanks is reasonable. Furthermore, due to the CD differential, Lustrate is technically more versatile and useful than benediction.
The real difference is that Holy is amazing and regen is crazy strong. Beyond that, the SCH is better at the rest but that in no way diminishes what the WHM can do. I always suggest running both.
