Hmm, I find it interesting that very few people have mentioned what happens when a Scholar's adloquium crits. Essentially, the barrier effect is doubled on a crit. That means if you adloquium to recover 1khp and 1k barrier normally, it crits for 1.5k hp and a 3k barrier. The added benefit is that it doesn't scale with hp like stoneskin, so very useful for non-tanks. Of course, the barrier is wasted if they don't take damage in 30 seconds, but it gives non-tanks breathing room and it gives the scholar time to top the tank off or apply debuffs. Succor's barrier has the same effect on aoe, although it caps at a lower potency.

I have found that proper use of a SCH requires the player to really know all the attack patterns from the boss. Experience fighting the enemy makes a huge difference for scholars, more so than for WHM I believe. The problem I see is that when a WHM makes mistakes, they take their toll from their mp. If there is a bard, they can help cover for a weak WHM. When a scholar messes up, it appears as damage and hp loss, which is not so easily correctable by a non-healer.

On a personal note, I find myself preferring SCH compared to WHM. I much prefer the ability to plan my skills and dislike the random spellprocs of the WHM cure series. That is just my preference though.

i have a scholar in my FC that i have seen solo titan HM on multiple occasions.

both classes are viable at all levels of content.

i have had scholars crit for more than 1k with convalescence active on turn 2 coil, and consistently crit for 1k off convalescence. that is about the equivalent to the 18% shield that stoneskin gives me. (my HP as of now is 6.2k with party buff and food)

I'm not sure how a WHM can tank Titan HM either (if we're talking about the literal sense of tanking and not just who's a boss healer). Mountain Buster will destroy you.

That or you're talking about XI where a WHM can basically tank almost anything in the game.

[EDIT] To be honest, if it's possible for a WHM to tank Titan HM, I'd legitimately love to see it. I tanked everything as a WHM back in the day on XI, would love to see it all again over here on XIV.

Well, I eat my words. Bravo! I am very impressed with that. Funny enough, that brings a little legitimacy to my silly idea of making the 2nd CNJ Job a heal tank >.> lol

Now for SCH tanks, I think you'd need an incredibly specialized setup since SCH enmity is praised for their lack of enmity generation, lol. I would love to see it though, if you get it recorded ^_^

Quite simply, if the WAR is there for the VIT buff and doesn't stay on defiance / uses non enmity generating attacks, WHM will stay ahead. Don't underestimate how much Threat Medica II + Medica spam can generate. Was still quite a far margin ahead in hate compared to the 2nd place person, after watching the video.

[EDIT] Yeah, I can imagine it's a group effort. Without BRD songs for MP, I don't think you wouldn't be able to maintain those kinda hate levels (especially since popping shroud is very counter productive to your goal), though I bet if your WAR came as a MRD instead, his DPS levels would be fun to see =p Still, it's great you got a group of people to work with for such silly ideas. It's what keeps the game amusing.
