On the subject of birds does anyone else feel they looks totally stupid in terms of design, they look almost cartoon like and don't seem to fit in with the rest of the game.

That is one fault of many among them, yes.

But as stylistically irrelevant as Ewes are, I wouldn't want them out of the game. We would have to eliminate half the lalafells if we were going down that path.

As a resident of Gridania, I have to place myself as opposed to the extermination of any creature which may spend part of its natural life in the Black Shroud.

As much as I am an advocate for the sustainability of our Eco system, in the real world, I would have to say that if forests in the real world looked like the Black Shroud I would be first in line leading a parade of all men and women equipped with hatchets and flamethrowers...and its not for logging wood and starting a bonfire either.

I'd rather have gliding birds than no birds at all. In fact even more wildlife would be greatly appreciated. (shark fins, big bugs, fish, monkeys in trees, squirrels and so forth) And no I don't need to be able to kill every baby panda in the game. Honestly it's a bit disturbing that I can.

I don't see this as a serious issue in the least. I always accepted right away that they were FLYING. Besides which, even if they are hovering, who cares? This is hardly anything to even bother with, ever.

But why can't they fly around like real birds? Why? What excuse can you realistically give other than laziness? You cite "coding" as a reason, and you're correct. That's exactly what it is: poor coding.

Other MMOs have realistically flying birds. They only come down to eye level when you shoot them down.

I don't see why you think this is beyond SE's abilities.

And how exactly would you propose that you FIGHT these realistically flying birds? Smack them once in a while as they swoop by your head? You'd be lucky to get the damn thing targeted, much less hit it. Some birds in real life are capable of hovering... The species of bird in the game happens to also be capable of hovering. Deal with it.
