Would be cool if when idle, they sat on the ground, in trees, on lalafells heads.

Hmmm... I actually agree. The birds that never land to rest are kind of odd. At some point you'd think they would land or rest on a perch (a branch sticking out of a cliff wall) or something just walk around on the ground doing what birds do. In combat naturally I see them taking off and engaging you in flight as per normal but the rest of the time it's kind of unnatural. This is by no means an important or pressing issue though but it is curious.
Also, stop crapping on Vesperia because, and it's rare I agree with anyone about anything, Vesperia is not bringing up one of the same dead horse topics that are constantly brought up that everyone is constantly complaining about that we know is being worked on that serves no useful purpose to continue discussing and beating ad infinitum. Just because Vesperia raises a fringe point does not mean he/she should be stoned. We all (Vesperia included) are well aware that the dev team is busy on the dead horse topics the community has seen fit to repeat endlessly and can barely be bothered to rephrase anymore. That doesn't mean there aren't other smaller side issues we couldn't be discussing sometimes to keep the forums from being as one-dimensional as they often are.
I don't know of any MMOs that have birds that aren't hovering. At least not any MMO that I have played and there are about a dozen of those. Sure the programming isn't the best be even WoW has hovering birds, not til later that they added the ability to fly in the game did they add mobs that fly down and attack you. For SE the world would have to follow those same guidelines and make flight possible without changing screens etc to get onto an airship etc.
Birds can fly, guy can't jump
good reason, SE
FWIW birds in WoW actually look like birds (ie eagles, crows etc) and they fly from tree to tree/rock to rock, they rest in a tree for a while and then fly to another.
This is what birds do, they don't stay in one spot hovering a few feet off the floor.
SE could easily have roots and branches sticking out of the cliff walls where they could perch looking down on unsuspecting lalafell that try to run to BW :P
Not only that when I'm running through one of these bird infested canyons how about some howling wind effects and bird of prey screeches, make it more ominous :P

This topic is.. i do not know how to express this in word... not stupidity, but... really.... stop making this kind of thread... .
Yes, and they could cast shadows over your path as they swoop from area to area, briefly notifying you of your impending doom.FWIW birds in WoW actually look like birds (ie eagles, crows etc) and they fly from tree to tree/rock to rock, they rest in a tree for a while and then fly to another.

Not strictly true, there are only two types of bird mob in wow with a bunch of reskins, and they generally fly in a circle and land in the same spot. Not really that special or dynamic. That said, it's better than FFXIV's birds.FWIW birds in WoW actually look like birds (ie eagles, crows etc) and they fly from tree to tree/rock to rock, they rest in a tree for a while and then fly to another.
With this in mind I'm going to say who gives a ***. There are more important things to think about.

Birds on Earth are not magical creatures. Birds on Eorzea may very well be. Really, the presence of magic in a world should affect the biology of that world. And did you miss the video of the hovering kestrel? Or are you just willfully ignoring it because it weakens your position? That analogy fails to work on account of the fact that birds are not magical creatures.
I'm tired of these games resting on 'symbolical representation' when we are in an age where that is no longer necessary. People ask for a suspension of disbelief but I ask for an attempt at reality.
