ping plotter application can do a constant tracert and put it on the screen for you to easily see where your packets are dropping (if any)
also in my experience the required system specs are too low for this game, resulting in graphic/computation lag
I remember when I was bad at titan too, I would also blame lag.
Lag is no different from any other game mechanic, it can be compensated for; I still lag at times, but because I know the fight, Im always able to make up for that lag.

I use the lag to my advantage. I move in such a way that people think I will get hit but I don't. Some people in my FC are like "how does he not get hit by that?" However, that took A LOT of runs for me to be able to pick up the timing.
If you aren't having an issue it's because you aren't having these issues. Titan is not a hard fight, the plumes give you more then enough time to dodge them, the only difficult thing is learning the bomb rotation, but I live in Canada (so I'm close to the servers), I have a good internet connection and a very good computer. Some days I have absolutely no problems on titan because it's an easy fight and I've run it so many times, but other days I get hit with LS's I was out of instantly, my casts take 2-3 seconds to hit after the cast completion ends and I get hit with plumes I was out of immediately.
There are lag issues, these issues don't seem to be affected by your location, hardware or internet connection and there is no amount of 'anticipating plumes' that will save you from them. There are tons of videos on youtube that show this issue, feel free to look it up.
Lag can happen at any time within any game. I'm sure people have been hit with legit lag spikes in titan, he'll its happened to me a few times before. People that perpetually die and blame it on lag generally do suck. I read your post and out of curiosity I started to "Look it up" as you said. And so far all I've found is example of people noobing it up, thinking that the void zone animation correlates to being hit or not, while paying no attention to the casting bar. Take this as exhibit A) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFfu0i89gpI Idiot think's he's out of it in time. A simple print screen I took proves other wise: http://i.imgur.com/syrX4fE.jpg . This is just one example. I'm sure there are some legit lag issues no doubt, but its no where near as bad as people are making it out to be.

Last night fighting Titan I got out of range of plume time and time again and would get hit. Twice even I completely casted spell outside of the plume and got hit. I even got knocked off by a punch that I had time to dodge and get a cast off. Their are several people in our FC who have to Fight Titan differently because we have to anticipate the graphic/latencies issues that come. I assume mine come from using a machine barely above the min requirements. This does not make the fun or challenging it makes it frustrating that time and time again you are in the clear. I noticed with mine the cast bar is usually 1/4 the way through before plumes/ red lines appear. I don't have these issues with ifrit, or garuda, it's only in the titan fight.
Ok well, if you're playing a game which has, in your estimation, barely the "minimum" required specs, what makes you think you should be running the upper tier of content? Not that Titan isin't easy mode for many FC's and groups now, it is, but it's the gateway to end game in its current state. I don't understand how you could have been expecting to be a big participant in end game with a sub-par computer.
Gonna go out on a limb and say this is what is happening to you if its consistently happening. It might be lag once in a while, sure, but if this supposed "lag" you only experience in titan, you aren't dodging fast enough. Btw, if a plume spawn on you, you dont have to time to run all the way out, and cast a complete spell before the cast bar goes off. Start casting a spell? Sure, complete a non instant casted spell before the cast bar completion after running out of one? No.

The imgur link is an unedited print screen I took of pause during the video. You can clearly see that although it does appear the character is clear of the void zone before the animation goes off, you can clearly see that with the cast bar at roughly 90% full, he's still got 1/4 of the way to go. Yes this game is not wow, there is an inherent .3 second sever check/lag associated with everything currently. The game does not require massive bandwith to run, on average you're probably pushing like 30-50kb/s up and 20-100kb/s down at any given time. There is a reason there are people who can consistently dodge titan mechanics and people who can't. Not saying this is directly the case with you, but I have a feeling some people just have a hard time accepting that they aren't good enough or haven't practiced enough to compensate for this .3 delay that WE ALL deal with, and thus, blame their poor play on lag. Quite frankly I'm sick of it.

People in my FC think it's the way the game is designed. You have to memorize the rotation and have to be moving before the ability is cast because there is simply not enough time to run out if you are standing in the middle of a puddle.
I think it's a little silly to have unescapable aoe in the game (ie reaction time can't save you) but the evidence certainly supports the idea that it was designed that way.
