Gather As Fast As Possible and Reduce Lag Guide

Hi all,

I have made a video where I explain the steps I've taken to reduce my lag and how I gather as fast as possible in Mining and Botany. You can watch it here if interested:

My question for you all is what steps, if any, have you taken to reduce lag to the game servers?

I am currently playing in the UK on Masamune JP server which is 6000 miles away. With steps I have taken my latency went from 480ms to 250ms and now the game plays like any EU server would, and Titan HM is finally doable for me.

ping to the particular server IP, each server has different IP, you might check it by putting mouse on top of server name in server status page (If I remember correctly, can't check cuz' office blocks that page)
i.e. Tonberry's IP is 202.67.53.202

Yeah, but also WTFast shows you the latency live as well.

WTFast is great for reducing lag (if you have good connection to the nearest entry point), but it cost additional money.

But: Square-enix could do the same thing. Why not introduce gateways for Europe, Australia etc.. which will connect people to their VPN and straight to their servers? This way they can control which providers/connection lines they use, and reduce the ping and lags for all players around the world, without need to make another datacenters. Path of Exile is using this system and I didn't see much complains about ping/lags, and the whole world is playing on same server, just different gateways to improve connection quality.

In my situation it helped because of the fact I am 6000 miles from the game server I am playing on. Seeing the latency reduce from 480 to 260 ms helped a lot. I also linked another topic though in the video that just shows general network card configuration that can help on its own. You can always try it the free version and see if it helps you at all.

WTfast has helped me alot, no doubt about that
i dont see that much of a ping improvement with the free trial, but ive gone from being miles from the red crap on the floor, and still being hit, til where it actually feels like i have time to consider where to go!!!
ive gone from being hit by AE atleast 5 times in an average WP run, to being hit once in 5 runs!
i can safely say that i will go with the premium version, once the free trial runs out(if im still playing ffxiv)
so thank you for this thread, ive passed it along to guildies aswell

edit: does WTfast have a page where we can suggest new server locations? i would die to get one in Chiang Mai, but even one in Bangkok would be sweet right now i think the closest one to me is Singapore which is quite far away LOL

I believe there are community forums where you can ask such questions on the site. Since using it I notice a difference even when leveling gathering. It just makes the clicking on the veins/nodes/trees etc so much more responsive. Some might say if I am in the UK why not just play on a NA/EU server, but I am on Masamune because of my wonderful free company who I discovered prior to ARR's launch and are now my best friends in game so I have little choice in the matter. The game is about who you play with rather than what you're actually doing for me, so I have to make do. WTFast and also the network card reconfigure definitely helped a lot. After I first used it I tried Hard Mode Titan with a free company friend and we pretty much 1 shot it with a JP duty finder group as we were easily able to dodge all damage as if we were playing a single player game and it felt wonderful.
