Currently, the hack only affects (affected) certain parts of the world and certain players. I have heard that the best way to avoid this happening to you is to NOT use the summoning bell outside of the inn.

The security token, like a car alarm or house alarm, will not stop someone determined enough to break in and get your stuff. But it is peace of mind.

The specific incident of Gill Hacking which you are most likely referring to happened about a week ago. The supposed hackers targeted characters that had 300K or more and were logged in at the time. From what I understand they attempted to gain access to these players accounts by impersonating said account owners. If you were not logged in at the time you could not have been targeted . I believe the threat has since passed. You should feel safe logging in now.
