Items Removed from Market due to inactivity?

I knew that I was going to be out of state for 2 weeks for work. So I filled my shop with materia and crafting items that I had collected hoping to sell while I was gone.

Well I got back today, and my retainers were showing the "Selling no items" message, so I assumed they sold everything. However, when I went to collect my money, I found not nearly as much as should have been there. Now I went back and found that both my retainers had almost full shops, and the message had changed from "selling no items," to "seliing 19 items."

Do they remove inactive players retainers from shops, and I just refreshed it when I summoned them?

when you dismiss the retainer and get the message "you are now selling items in the uldal market" i believe they are for sale for 1 week or so, it states the date when you select which retainer to summon

So what happens to the item after the end date of the sale? (If you don't visit the retainer and they don't sell the item)
