    Monsters Body parts

Ok so whats peoples thoughts on this.

If we had some of the mobs on the field broken down into targetable parts with HP (legs, arms, torso etc). Pounding on these individual parts causing weakening to the others but have the head as what need to be defeated to actually kill the mob.

    This could play like so:

Solo player attacks a even match mob the solo player doesn't go straight for the head because it is too tough (large amount of HP or Nasty retalitory attack etc). The Solo player then proceeds to take out arms and legs etc gaining a small amount of exp for each and causing detrimental effects to the head and/or other body parts. Then of cause takes on the head for the kill.

A party at even match or above should be able to take the head out with out taking out limbs and would gain no exp from taking limbs out.

A party where the mob is tough will need to take the limbs out like with the solo player and would gain exp from each limb.

This would take careful balancing as with any combat mechanic but it should be doable by managing the HP and retalitory attacks and bonus based on player rank vs monsters.

This could also open up other tatics like preventing a Mob from fleeing by taking its legs or wings out rendering it immobile. Drops could be placed on certain parts and the most desirable drops could be placed on parts that could be harder to take out than the head so killing a mob quick for drops might not always be your goal.

This actually is in the game.
It need certain weapon skill at the right part (and a certain amount of damgare) to break a monster part. If it happens, you'll see a part missing.Certain mobs, like great buffalo, only drop certain items in that way
I don't think we'll ever see an entire limb taken off (it's a T game after all), but is a nice mechanism and i really hope they don't rid it.

Actually they could make that happen. It's rated T and has far worse things than dismemberment in it already. They just wouldn't be able to make the stump spew blood and gore with the monster/player wailing like a banshee before collapsing at your feet.

I know it is in the game already in a sence, Skeleton will lose there heads but I wasn't looking at this really in a veiw to start popping off bady parts. I was thinking more that the mechanic could be more key to how fights play out.

Incaps just need to be adjusted i think. IE. Dogs need leg incap, and once legs incap'd they don't run around all the time.

I can see incaps playing really cool rolls in "END-GAME" fights. Add bit more skill to a fight.

Honestly this would be more FFish because there are generally fights in previous versions of FF that have had monster/boss fight with jetpacks you could disable, or lasers, or arms etc.

So hopefully they elaborate on ALL their options when they sit down and come up with fights and mechanics.

Honestly i'd like EVERY enemy in the game to be able to suffer some type of incapacitation and have a model or at least animation change based on that effect. They've got polygon shaving technology to change models slightly with little to no extra work required, so i'd really like them to take advantage of it.

Personally when i first heard they were implementing incapacitation into the game i was imagining monsters with multiple targetable parts with different hps and was more than a bit dissapointed when that wasnt the case. I dont really think much of the, use a certain weapon skill and hope the monster is incapacitated. Its not much different than waiting for a crit to happen in xi with imps and the like.

I suggested in some long gone thread about having targettable 'parts' to certain monsters. Not all monsters should have this though, would be a pain in the ass if you had to fight 4 monsters all with 2-3 different parts to target. But for large NMs and significant boss fights, I think it would be an awesome mechanic.
