Does not sound like a fix in my book. I am not going to tolerate that 0.3s lag in any area whatsoever, because I am used to quality in my mmos. Of course this is only an angry rant since I've already stopped playing, but now it's clear it won't ever be worth coming back.

I personally expect them to do something about it in the long run, but *if* it happens, it will take time.Does not sound like a fix in my book. That they are doing something on such a short notice is at least encouraging, and will help some people wait a bit longer.

From the sound of it SE is not getting most of the benefits of going Server-live.
I'd rather have one of those anti-cheating programs running in the background and a much better client over having the mess we have right now. In all my years playing MMOs XIV is by far the most unresponsive. And this is counting Japanese (100-200ms) and a couple of Korean MMOs (were my latency is around 250-300ms.)
So 300ms of server delay + another 100-200ms of inherent latency to the Japan data centers = I'm so dead. Specially if I try to level a tank job, because so far I've been unable to dodge about 50% of the AoEs I've tried to leveling GLA and MRD. orz
Edit >
And this is the part where someone will tell me I'm having such problems for not playing in a NA server. To which I reply:
1) I'm playing in a JP server (Atomos) to help me practice my Japanese and learn more.
2) My play time hours are more compatible with Japanese times.
And glorious 3) Even though I'm in what's considered NA (I live in Mexico) my connection to the servers in Canada is far worse than it is to Japan for some reason. I get a 250-350ms ping to Canadian servers (against 100-150ms to Japan) which, as ridiculous as it sounds it makes playing on a Japanese server a need rather than just a luxury.
Riddle me that one.

We're paying for a service not promises.
I really wanted to give SE another chance. I loved FFXI and actually had a fun time in FFXIV 1.17 and up until they closed the servers down... For being a huge re-make and a re-designed engine and all that, I expected 2.0 to fix all of these "delay" and "network" issues, yet here they are.Does not sound like a fix in my book. My goodness SE, what the eff happened? 2.0 just isn't up to par. It's too bad.
I'll quote my favorite post from these boards regarding this "delay" and "network" fiasco:
Sums it all up really. If SE isn't going to fix this stuff, the game is probably not worth playing, honestly. All this should of been polished up from the start actually. You'd expect more from a company we all love and grew up with. Not to mention they have years of MMO developing experience...Originally Posted by Unruhe
On a core, fundamental level, World of Warcraft works. If you push an attack, that attack happens. If you run to a spot to avoid an AOE, you avoid that AOE. If a boss starts casting a spell and you press an interrupt, that interrupt happens instantly and successfully every time. WoW has a fluidity and responsiveness that a many recent high-profile games (TOR and ARR especially) simply lack.
How any development staff can sit down and say "Let's make a hotkey, tab-target MMO" and then expend zero effort in nailing combat absolutely boggles my mind. WoW exists. It's easily accessible. It's free until level 20. Have your devs play it. If your WoW-like game feels sluggish and laggy compared to WoW, then you need to start over. You don't release a game with a similar monthly fee while offering what is clearly mechanically inferior to WoW. The final kicker is ARR even managed to have a terrible tab-target system, too! How do you even mess up tab-target? How?!? SE knows, apparently.
SE won't be getting anymore subscription money from me. I've cancelled my renewals. Maybe.. just MAYBE, I'll see how the game is 6 months to a year from now.
SE's devs feels like Austin Powers when they just got Dr. Evil out of cyro-freeze and he still thinks one million dollar is a lot of money. I mean, I understand there are the guys who design a game to be anti-WoW for whatever reason but to be the anti-WoW you at least have to know what WoW is. This game makes me think nobody on the staff has played a MMORPG besides FF11, ever. MMORPG server architecture is hardly a guarded secret. Even very cheap MMORPG has adequate response. This isn't like say a big name MMORPG announces they'll have permadeath. As crazy as it sounds in theory you can see why some guy might believe this could work. FF14 is more like 'let's take everything worked on a MMORPG and break it on purpose', and you can't even find a justification for it like a permadeath game can. Stuff is just plain broken. They really need to fundamentally redesign the abilities so that you're not dependent on dodging stuff in easily the worst environment for such actions. The announcement in 2.1 is better than nothing, but I suspect it'd not be sustainable because constant check on client position is likely very straining on the server.
I am not disagreeing with you there, but they have to start somewhere, and bandage the issue somehow with a bit of urgency. Since increasing the rate at which positioning polls are done will create a very large load on the server, they have to be selective as to which areas they decide to apply the bandage. It makes the most sense to have them in the areas that are the most movement intensive, such as Titan. That isn't to say that this will be the very last thing they do to address it (at least I sure hope it's not), or that they shouldn't address it elsewhere. However, expecting them to immediately fix all areas with 2.1 is unreasonable. That's why I believe the mere fact they addressed it and are now making moves to try and improve it is so important.
So bascially SE could spend the money to fix it now and technically make some of it back or keep it the way it is and have players leave in droves and lose money? I know for a fact when I get to the point where the desyncs with the AoEs are common, I'm done with this game. Things of this nature should not happen at all if SE wants to keep FFXIV open, and everyone knows it.
Given this very useful thread is here, I wonder why so many people still think the the main problem for dodging AOE comes from the cast bar/animation/0.3 second, maybe I shouldn't be surprised since Yoshi.P himself just want to keep playing around with this magic number.
