    Pre-Story: Bell Canada bought Base Node hardware from the US and it was designed to handle Eastern Seaboard US traffic. Canada will never see that level of traffic in the life of the base nodes. So they sell it out to companies cheap. Mostly the Canadian servers are used for doing content downloads, where you need huge bandwidth to accommodate transfers. CCP do it as well. Their main US office is in Georgia but their content servers are in Montreal.

    I'm in Canada and I can say I still get server side lag. I was doing Leve quests a few days ago. Mob has a bar on my UI but no mob. He wasn't placed on the screen yet. Best part was, he was pounding the piss out of me anyway but I couldn't target back. This is sort of placement problem that makes I-Win AoE in dungeons a problem. It's not Latency to the server. The servers are over heating and can't get the information relayed. My guess is, they are in a basement with poor ventilation.

    I think the best fix for the problem would be to extend the cast time of the red zone by 1 or 2 secs.

    I live 2 - 3 hours drive from the city that the server is in, I get 20 ping with no packet loss and i have 1+ second delay on every movement. Casts are fine, but stuff like jumping and moving has a huge delay. All of my friends who are on different ISPs have the same problem. I can mount while running.

    and how exactly is that going to fix anything? did you even read the OP? the DISTANCE is not what is causing the latency. your connection will STILL be 'bad' even if the server is in your country. if the problem was the lines underneath the atlantic ocean then that would mean the following:

    a) people from NA would not have any issues
    b) everyone from EU would have the issues

    neither is the case.

    That is simply incorrect.

    Latency is directly proportional to distance. European servers would vastly improve the situation for Europeans.

    How did they fix this issue immensely from beta where the server check was even worse so quickly? Legit question lol not being sarcastic.

    I remember it was way worse in the beta and yoshida acknowledged it pretty quickly and "fixed" it for beta 4/release.

    Either way its quite clear if they want to keep customers they need to fix this. if there is a yes option then they need to do it.

    How come I don't have any problems dodging Eruptions and Plumes (Ifrit's), even when done in the last instant, but still get hit sometimes by a silly line attack like Desolation or slow-as-molasses the Ram's Keeper?

    When I get hit by Plume, I can't even see my character, I'm inside the flames (sometimes I even think I'll get hit but don't, because I got used to dying while out of things). Then comes silly Landslide and sends me off the arena when I'm out of the line before the cast ends (I see Titan turning, and I get ready to run if it comes at my direction, so it's not a "last instant move")...

    I think there's more to that than a mere delay. It seems like some area attacks/red circles are horribly programmed. Either that or my inner white knight refuses to acknowledge that this is never going away.

    Decrease time between location checks, and reduce the size of "you" from a circle roughly your size to a miniscule dot in the very center of your character.
