Already liked as soon as I saw it.
If people can't be bothered to receive tells while playing a social game such as a MMORPG (sic), then it should be a simple opt-in/out option.
Since most of the game is instanced, this limitation means that we cannot talk to most of our friends most of the time. You have to choose between continuing a conversation or playing… For a MMO, a "social" game by essence, I find it to be very problematic. It actually makes it difficult for us to keep in touch with others. The game made some people I know (very good friends) more apart than they were close, before the game started. Simply because they can't talk to each other, and spend a lot of time within the game. This decision to limit talking is bad, it needs to be reversed.
The social argument is somewhat weak when it comes to /tell in a dungeon. For starters, you're not isolated from others by being in a dungeon... you're already grouped with other players (social activity). If you're being anti-social to your group/LS/FC, but not to a /tell, something tells me that the anti-social behavior isn't due to a temporary lack of /tell.Already liked as soon as I saw it.

An opt-in/out would be great, but since it's not part of the game yet, I don't really see that much of a problem behind it. It's a bit of an inconvenience, but nothing game breaking. Don't over-exaggerate the concern, it just makes it sound like you only talk to people through /tells while you dungeon. Why someone would choose ONLY dungeon moments to send a /tell to someone is beyond me.
The pace of battle is already so fast that it lowers your efficiency just typing in party chat. I can't imagine trying to hold a full conversation with someone in tells while I'm trying to do a dungeon.
RMTs are not the only reason to not let people get tells in dungeons. I have encountered enough people already saying "Oh, sorry I let you die. I was distracted by LS chat." or the TV or whatever else.
Having an opt in or out option would not solve that because way too many people think they can handle tells and doing the dungeon at the same time and don't even realize its causing a problem. Just like too many people think that they can text while driving better than the idiots the laws are there for and get into accidents.
I think it also needs to be said that RMT was not the cause of the disabled /tell function, as this discussion and decision was made before launch. For many of us, in light of RMT, it's also a saving grace as a result. Yeah, it's an inconvenience, but it's seriously not as big of a deal as you people are making it out to be. Don't take minor inconveniences so seriously.
People who don't pay attention simply don't, and will continue not to. The players that care will continue to care even with tells.
Using your same example for instance, in my state driving while texting is illegal. If they for some reason turned around tomorrow and made it legal, I don't think there would be this turn around where people simply started thinking "Thats a good idea!" that never did it before. The people who text now and texted before, still do it. The people who never did, continue not to. Idiots are idiots regardless of their means.
Nobody is taking it way serious. I'm not threatening to quit. I'd just like to see tells implemented. If you don't thats fine then don't like the question. All I'm doing here is asking for an update in the LIVE Letter I don't think thats a big deal.I think it also needs to be said that RMT was not the cause of the disabled /tell function, as this discussion and decision was made before launch.
