Full Inventory and Item Stacks

Is there a reason why, when I have no empty inventory slots that I can't gather items that stack? I was doing some low-level gathering and i ran out of room. I went to gather an item that stacks, and I already had a stack going. It tells me I cant gather it. It just seems like that's an oversight to me.

Indeed, it's very annoying when that happens. There are other places where the game's inventory logic could be tweaked.

Last night, I was trying to give 99 Level 1 Carbonized Matter to the Mining guildmaster. I had 196 items, but they had gotten rearranged into two stacks of 98 each. The icon over the guildmaster's head had turned green since I had over 99 items, but since I could not select a stack of 99, I could not complete the transaction. We SERIOUSLY need a "combine" feature in the inventory, as well as a "split" one.

It's already in the game, albeit not automatically. You can just pick up the second stack, drop it on the first stack and you'll have a stack of 99 and a stack of 97. Also splitting, all you do is open up the menu and choose split stack or something like that.
