Does that mean they indirectly admit that there won't be an expected number of ppl playing the game on ps4?
Or perhaps, they think 2.2 is not going to attract a large number of people to play when released?

This is actually rather confusing considering the post yesterday with having higher levels of server congestion due to increased logins, which was the reason they implemented this in the first place.
I guess they figure if everyone is smart enough to bypass the mechanic by idling on a NPC, craft, etc that there was no point in having it.
I'm sure they had confidence before, too.
But, to play safely, it'd be better just to leave it there and think about removing it after 2.2,, not right when 2.2 comes out. It's not like it's something broken they are fixing. It's more like an insurance, I think.
I think it's hinting toward new servers being added during 2.2 downtime.

That seems like a pretty big assumption. More likely after 6 months of upgrades in both the server software and infrastructure plus the changing way in which the players have been using the game making SE feel like the game can now handle the users staying logged in like this. No need for a "cup is half full" kind of response like you had. So negative.
They've already confirmed that they are adding additional servers. No need for hints when it's already a known factor. This is another good reason the assumptions made by Umero above are off the mark.
To be fair, the launch problems was because they grossly underestimated the demand for ARR. It exploded right out the gate when they expected it to be a lot more gradual.
GOODWhile we understand that some of you have requested to remove this, we’ve confirmed with the development team that there are no plans to remove the auto-logout feature. As many of you pointed out, regular activity will prevent your character from logging out, so please make the most of your time in-game.

Great news for those people that didn't know how to click on npcs or nearly anything else pretty much.
The same people that are joining in PF and randomly logout without realizing it.
So I guess its good for that situation. And I wont have to run to the nearest logout prevention point when I need to go to the restroom for 30 mins or go get some takeout, cook, exercise w/e lol. Not tryin to be a downer or anything. Maybe they'll implement a nice feature along side this like... Bazaars, repair requests and/or meld requests! Not trying to sound like a advocate for the auto logout, theres not very many reasons for it to be around. I'll definitely be cool with it. I just hope there wont be a situation where there is like idk, a thousand people afk in wineport, and no one can enter to do there basic leves/fates, because all the coil people are afk out there. I doubt that will be a issue but would be funny lol.
