2-3k shards should net you in a good 400-500k

Don't buy Rank 10 gear go straight for R15-20 you will level into it so fast it would be a waste of money buying R10 gear.

I have to agree with AlexiaKidd above...

Buy 20-25 gear right from the start, and try to get as much gear that has "common" repair materials and share the most classes. This will make getting repairs less frustrating.

You know there is some of the new NM gear that requires ridiculous repair materials, like blue coral, or electrum squares etc.. No one carry's these around unless they have they same item to repair. Just saying be careful when choosing the equipment by the repair materials, as easier more common ones get repaired quicker.

    Examples:
    Canvas/Velveteen/Linen Fent
    Brass/Iron Nuggets
    Iron Squares
Buffalo Leather/Toad Leather Spetches (sometimes sheep)
    willow/walnut/oak branches

If you try to keep those repair materials, most crafter's carry those on hand... I'm sure I missed a few, just trying to help any new player into the game.

Edit: Also use your rank 1 weapons as long as possible before you must upgrade, then you can repair them with Repair NPC for very cheap.

Not only that, but i gotta be a freakin nuclear scientist or mathmatician to remember all the mats that i need to craft into what and wait....there several parts i cant make on my own!
No, you can't make the best gear yourself. But you can make decent gear and tools.

But you have to remember it's a MMO, not a solo game. You need to interact with others and work together to progress well. If you've been grinding, you have plenty of things to sell (crystals especially). You can buy the parts you can't make. (helping the economy by giving upper level crafters a market).

As for recipes, there are several good sites. I favor Eorzeapedia.

And it makes sense for the recipes to include parts of higher level. It's often easier to put the parts together than to make the parts.

Find a decent LS and see if a fellow member could make you some cheap gear, I'm sure you will find many who are willing to do the low stuff for free.

Window mode + Yellow Gremlin = lifesaver.

Now the hard part is grinding from 20-50.

And how does guidleves work? I pick up all that i can from the taru in the guild hall place, i run out ot the camp, initiate them at the crystal, then go kill all the mobs for it, turn it into the crystal that appears, and i get a reward.

Well, after that, the guildleve goes grey in my list and ive yet to be able to repeat a guildeve. So are there new ones every day for each camp or do i do the initial spread i get on day 1 and thats it?

And yes, i know to get the battle ones, the mats farming ones, and the faction ones. My question is that after you pick them all up on day one, complete them, is that it for that camp or are there new ones back at the taru in the guild hall?

You can get up to 8 a day. If you grabbed all the ones for one camp (example: You had 3 leves for Drybone which is rank 10-ish and you took them all and finished them) thats all you can get for that camp during that 36 hour reset. If you travel to the other 2 cities you can get more leves at those cities for their Rank 10 camps to get more battle leves. ^^
