I believe someone was interested in burning down Gridania in order to exterminate the lalafells. It just so happens that they mostly inhabit Ul dah. In FFXIV lore lalafells are masters of the market not mages hidden in the woods.
As much as I'm usually up for some genocide I'd protest against people destroying Ul dah as that would become my new home. But if we're still talking about burning down Gridania just let me know because I'll be spending my time studying fire magic and alchemy.
You don't need a reason to help someone~
I would wonder where the hell I am since there are no homes or beds for that matter in the game. Then I would proceed to spend my gil on copious amounts of booze at the bars since there is nothing else to do for the moment
I would also take advantage of my new found free time to acquaint myself with as many Mi'qote girls as I could.

I thought the question was "what if you woke up as your FFXIV character" not "what if you woke up as your character in FFXIV world"
The first thing I would do is spend hours emptying out my pockets. The entire time I would be amazed that I could still walk with 300 Oak logs, 200 Iron ore, a few hundred branches of various types and a full arsenal of weapons and tools in my pockets. Then I would take a swim in my enormous pile of gil like Scrooge McDuck. After that I would find a nice big Axe and round up a few thousand Lalafell "Volunteers" to carry around all my stuff.

lemme see, i play as a lalafel with a onion helm so i guess i'd be small, i also have a moogle as my best friend (rp) so.. i guess being short is a small fare, and i guess i couldn't drive my truck to work, lol
you DO realize that not all of them ARE girls right? lol
If I woke up as my FF character, I would have just made my boyfriend's day. (I play as a Miqo'te.)
