yes because i botted a ton of mats, thati farmed using bots which i want to get myself banned from the game i love by using bots, definitely!!!

or maybe I'm in a competition with some FC members and don't want some drama starting over something as petty as a market competition...

What's strange is the name only displays on the Market and for the person holding it, but you can't see it on another person when you examine them. I don't know why you would want to remove it though unless you're trying to do something like hide your retainers.

On the Market Board if you look through gear some of them have names and some of them don't (even if both were clearly crafted and not some quest reward that somebody dumped), which is why I'm sure the OP is asking.

If you /examine someone, you won't see it. I think you should be able to see it.

Nope - It's just bugged currently. When I /examine people I can see who made items sometimes and sometimes I can't just like sometimes I can see if something is slotted with Materia and sometimes I can't.

Just one of the many odd little bugs that popped up post launch.

It could be something silly like the crafter has to be online in order to see their name.
