Hmm.. anybody who has yet to reach level 45 at this point, should certainly be able to reach level 50 by February when the event happens again. So what if you miss out a bit now? You already know you'll get another shot at it, and it's not like the items in question are even useful outside of a whooping two levels. Everyone still has to wait until the vanity system gets implemented before than can utilize the weapon's/armor's appearance. And you don't even have to be high level to obtain all the weapons anyway.

It takes roughly a month or so to hit level 50 the first time by questing, and even less if you just FATE grind. That's with having a job and other commitments. Unless of course you rarely have time to play at all (but then I'd question why you'd even bother with an MMORPG, but that's just me), leveling in this game is pretty simple and easy.

I felt like I didn't rush my way though the game with my first class/job, and did all the story and side quests I saw and it only took roughly a month to hit level 50. Of course, the game really just starts once you hit level 50, as there's even more to do at that point, at least initially, and it's all a bit time consuming. That aside, it's definitely the first MMORPG that I've played where I leveled to the cap that quickly, just by playing it normally. I hate comparing things to WoW, but honestly it actually took me longer to hit the level cap in WoW (granted I played after Cataclysm had launched and the level cap was already fairly high at that point). It used to be that playing most MMORPGs normally (with exception of FFXI, which took way, way longer) for me would take an average of around 3 months to reach the max level and completed the storyline, which I felt was a decent amount of time having played the game to reach that point.

My point is basically, that it does not take very long to level in this game unless you are intentionally not really even trying to do things that give you experience. Now, I understand somewhat if you decided to focus on only crafting and gathering classes and haven't really leveled any battle classes. Of course, if you are a person that has done that then you've been missing out on a lot of content (like the game's story, dungeons, FATEs, class/job stories, sidequests, actual combat... you know about 80% of the game). Personally, I don't understand that particular course of action, but that's me and I know there are some people that have done just that. And while I suppose it might be moderately interesting if there was some kind of event for crafters and gatherers, there isn't. I mean, look at your actual "story" quests, go gather/craft x amount of [insert item] and bring it back to me. Okay, good job! *pat on back*.

TL;DR: Level up.
