I understand but if you don't have time to play the game and immerse yourself it's kind of pointless. Would be like trying to enjoy a game like skyrim but only playing 2 hours a month.
When people first said the world was to tiny, I said, just wait, Yoshi promised us 80 or so zones. It was quoted, it was in a live letter, so I waited. I have to say, maybe there are 80 zones but it depends on how you class a zone. In my head a zone was a map, a separate map that you "zoned into". Pick any MMO, it doesn't have to be 11 or EQ or WoW, any MMO and the world is so much bigger than this one. It seems that SE now defines a zone as the name of the place you are in. So take for example North Shroud, it is one big zone (big is a relative term here) and you have little zones within the zone, like Fallgourd Float or Peace Garden. My problem with this is all of these zones can be reached in less then 2 minutes, even by foot!
I played 11, to get to Jueno was a trek, and not a very safe one. It took over 30 minutes of walking, and you just had to pray you didn't die on the way. You had to take a boat from windy, the boat ride was 15 minutes alone.
People can say what they want about white knighting and nostalgia but this world in ARR is TINY! And I for one hate it. Nothing is hard, nothing is not 100% safe, I can teleport any where I want in a blink of the eye. I didnt work for a "flight path" I didnt have to farm the scroll for my teleport points, I didnt have to walk anywhere... If this is what they meant by 80+ zones I think they need to redefine the word zone, cause I dont think it means what they think it does.

But you have to walk before you can teleport.
It is not like in 1.0, where someone can take you piggyback to teleport to each aetherite without that you need to walk there first.

There's something wrong here...FFXIV has lost it's magic
FFXIV has lost. It's magic!
There you go, now it follows the context.

I love grammar kings. It never fails to make me laugh when i see someone correcting someone else on grammar via. the interwebs where 85% learned English as a second language. I wonder just how fluent you might be in Portuguese or Dutch.
Try me out and reply and i'll see if i can correct your grammar. Please![]()

I find it even funnier when they alter the original meaning when doing so. In that case I think the OP meant FFXIV has lost its magic.I love grammar kings. Back on the subject, I quite agree with the OP. I'm actually hoping SE is currently using casuals as a cash cow and when they move on to the next shinny game, then SE will turn the game back to what it should have been.
FFXI veteran here, played for 4 years.
I understand your concerns and agree with most of them, however.. you are comparing a game you probably played and enjoyed for years to a game that's 3 months old.
Sure, running to Xarcabard the first time was fun, getting killed by demons and the Shadow Dragon (lolAnataboga) when you finally got there. In the end though, you had to go there everytime your LS/static wanted to run Dynamis.
You then had the getting lost in Yhoator to find your mandy/goblin camp, which was a thrilling experience the first two to three times. Unfortunately, it became the same grind which eventually wore on you (especially when an area was full on parties).
Then there was the Den of Rancor, and dealing with those paintings to get inside in the first place. It was funny seeing people get lost and die when their silent oil/prism powders wore off. After many Hakutaku runs, however, it merely became a nuisance.
