face the facts.
FFXIV has more subscribers than FFXI ever had and there's still the PS4 version coming.
FFXIV is obviously more popular than FFXI for a reason.
i played FFXI for 6 years but i can live with it and enjoy ARR.

You should probably also face the facts.
#1 Final Fantasy Title Financially for Square-Enix -->> Final Fantasy XI by a huge margin.
600k? That is 100k more than XI's peak. XI held 400-500k subscribers for YEEAAAARS, YEARS, years, years. Long lasting subscriptions.
You know what FFXIV has to do to beat FFXI? Stay afloat with a high amount of subs for 9+ years and release 4-5 expansions within that time.
You know what the FFXI and 1.0 fanbase is doing for FFXIV here on these forums? Helping to make XIV's longevity a reality. I see only this community actually co-operating, unlike the WoW community that fight and bicker and turn a blind-eye to anything FFXI related.

blade and souls is a pretty MMO that is also a grind fest. The massively website has a lot of MMO news about different types of games. You guys should look there for your grindfest game and leave us our FATES alone![]()
FFXI was released a long time ago when the demographic of players was much much smaller to draw from. It's not a valid comparison.
No, but it's still a stupid comparison. Saying that this game is somehow more successful than XI because it has more subs now than XI ever did is not a sound argument because the two games are separated by more than a decade.

I dunno about that really. I would say that whichever game makes SE the most money is probably going to be the most successful, regardless of what people say about it, and regardless of what time period it came out in. My personal definition would probably more have to do with how long the game stays afloat, and less with overall profit. In which case it's too early to tell, and XI has a huge head start. All subjective on what you view as successful though.
Also i don't think FFXI had commercials and years of hype like FFXIV. But let the defenders have their fun. In the end we'll see which one was better by how many subs FFXIV can maintain consistently compared to FFXI.
I loved FFXI and I love FFXIV especially the fact I can do content however much time I have available to play, however I do miss the time sinks and the thrill of the chase through the zones, running for my life while getting smacked in the back of the head by some mob that really should be too far away to touch me :} I hope they introduce some areas where there is some real danger of getting killed and where the mobs don't just give up and go home but chase you down with the objective of messing you up.
