It's really a silly thing to do. I have done it. But it is just as easy to kill the mobs. You save maybe 2-3 min doing this.
It's not like you can do it on the 2nd boss or 3rd boss... since the skeletons and ghosts are immune to sleep.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the point of a speedrun.
One little mistake. He slept too late. You should sleep immediately, this way the Tank takes less damage and the Healer (WHM) can Stone II/apply DoTs. The Healer should be able to get away with 1 Divine Seal'd Regen and then start DPSing immediately.
They key to a good speed-run is reducing damage as much as possible without sacrificing DPS. So for example, I've seen numerous Tanks not avoid the 1st Boss's AoE, which is incredibly simple to do, but by not doing it the Healer (WHM) has to waste 2 GCDs, one healing you and another cleansing the DoT from you.
Same scenario on the 2nd Boss where Fire is easily dodge-able.

As a Paladin tank, it's a very hard pull with lots of damage so I use my Invulnerability on it. That way the Black Mage doesn't need to sleep right away and can get the Tonberry dead. I also help by marking the correct Tonberry as I'm rushing them. The other pull I use my Invulnerability on is the very last one so it's up by again by the time we get there.
I also have a feeling that this is going to be nerfed and, honestly, I'm surprised it hasn't been already.
You can just lock out the mobs before the 2nd boss. My FC's been getting consistent 12 minute runs with the sleep/lockout strat.
I don't know if it will be nerfed though TBD. The community reps already stated that it's not considered an exploit...which is definitely NOT what they said with the AK speed runs (which WERE nerfed).
I don't consider sleeping late a mistake at all. I think assuming the healer is going to dps the tonberry instead of heal the tank because he is relying on the blm to sleep immediately could turn into a disaster. Not to mention the chance the tonberry doesn't die fast enough or somebody breaks the sleep because they AoE or the sleep missed some targets.
The key to ANY good run is reducing as much damage as possible without sacrificing DPS. Thanks for the tip, but I think it is safe to say that is the goal in a majority of groups, not just a speed run.
I find it hard to believe giving a healer a bit of dps uptime is a game changer for PUG's doing WPSR. I would consider that when going for runs under 9 minutes, not a simple guide for BLM.
I wouldn't call someones strategy a mistake, btw. Thanks for your interesting feedback to my video, if I have any questions about giving healers dps uptime, or over complicating strategies in PUG groups I will certainly contact you![]()
Doesn't complicate, makes it easier/faster. Healer doesn't have to worry about the Tank and the Tank doesn't have to waste up any CDs.
