First off it is not my computer. Freshly built, no problems, tons of horsepower. Besides I had FFXIV up and running on high settings up until the new patch (1.17b) Now here is the problem I have exactly,
When I literally go to click on my game shortcut, created after installation, it acts as if it will load up as normal and go through its regular process but alas it stays as a black screen with the BGM music playing. Taunting me. I have left it alone for up to 30 minutes and viola, still nothing. It is not that my entire display goes black, just the small box that FFXIV pops up when you click the program. Where the patch updater usually displays, then moving on to your login. Oh and I technically never get an error message so to speak, but nonetheless this is an error of some sort.
What I have tried,
-Updating my entire computer, from Windows to hardware drivers. Flash and Java, etc.
-Allowing my security, both IE and firewall. Resetting, changing, the whole nine yards.
-Tried running as administrator and running it in Windows XP sp2
-Opened ports
-Restarting modem, router, computer
-Uninstalling and reinstalling FFXIV. Which at first I thought worked until after patching for a few it black screened.
-I called SE and all they have to offer is to hard connect it to my modem. And oddly enough they do not do chat support for this type of problem.

Final thoughts,
Yes I do use wireless internet. But this has not once stopped me playing multiple MMO's. I have played and enjoyed FFXI and FFXIV on this wireless, and have updated with out problems. I do not for one second believe connecting my computer to the modem would solve anything and would just be a burdensome task that relieves nothing. As stated I have enjoyed FFXIV for the past few months with out error. And have even updated 1.17a just fine. But since 1.17b rolled around, which I have yet to been able to download, I get this 'Black Screen'
Any and all suggestions, that have not been tried yet, are welcomed. Thanks!
