Cloaks?

Any chance we'll be getting cloaks(with large fc emblems)?

This is based solely on my memory -- which is always kind of sketchy -- but I seem to remember a dev post from 1.0 talking about how cloaks take a lot more system memory than other types of clothes (to make them flow right, to avoid clipping, etc.). So at least in 1.0, they didn't have any intention of adding cloaks.

However, if we're talking about long-term, then it's certainly possible. Hopefully this game will be around for years, and over that time, anything is possible because they'll be given lots of time to figure it out. But I doubt we'll be getting cloaks anytime soon.

Well, in 1.0 we had visible belts whose appearance changed with what belt you had equipped, but that was removed in ARR (it was specifically stated the change was for technical reasons - it just took far too long for SE's artists to ensure all belts wouldn't clip badly on all pieces of armour. It also chewed up valuable system resources to display as a separate model as well).

Hence SE added a default belt appearance to each piece of armour (or not at all, in the case of some body pieces like tabards). I presume this is the same reason why we won't have cloaks, the cost in development time and system resources far outweighs the benefit I guess.

Wouldn't this be accomplished by just having a dyeable body piece specifically for displaying FC crests? I could see something like this coming out when we get Vanity slots, especially since the display of the crest seems to be determined by the model of the gear itself so if it is a unique model they can just have the crest go somewhere where it is prominent.

This already exists. Not for all pieces, hopefully it'll be expanded. Darklight I know for a fact can. Go to the FC npcs and there is a guy that puts the crest on your gear for a fee.

I am, personally, not a fan of cloaks, as they tend to hide gear. I like the system they have now, though I wish the crests would be a little bigger.

I know we can do this, what I was trying to say was that maybe we could get them to implement a body piece that exists solely to display the FC crest. For example, it could be displayed large and somewhere prominent instead of being tiny and on the shoulders or where the emblem on a shirt would be. Level 1, All classes, that way it would work great with the Vanity slots.

Currently, FC crests only get put in places where they "fit" which is better on some gear than others.

I'm still figuring out why the FC cruest shows INSIDE the kite shield. It's wierd ....
