WP: what is the pudding boss's target ability?

I still haven't quite figured this out. During my first run I was told to use Fluid Aura to push him back when he targets someone, which I assumed interrupted him, but on subsequent runs it still seems like he does the attack, and even if the target is far away, they take damage. How does this ability work??

Use Stone 1 if you're a WHM, he'll still target someone but it'll slow him down.

He doesn't have a single ability that he uses on the target. Targetting just means he's going to chase after that person and focus a few attacks on them. I'm not sure what all the attacks do/are named, but he tends to cast Fire at some point (which doesn't do much). He almost invariably ends the chase with a "spinning move". Mages/bards need to stay clear away from this or they will get one shotted generally. The hit box is a little weird though because you can still get hit even if you're outside of his actual reach. It's always safe to stay as far away as possible. I see too many people stop running before he's stopped chasing, and they get owned by this last move. Don't stop running til he spins and you'll be fine.

Make sure you stay away from him even if you're NOT targetted cuz that spin move will still damage you if you're within its proximity.

Thanks. So I guess the idea is just to push him away from the target to put some distance between them, rather than to interrupt anything.

What Nichigo said. I'll just add that you don't actually have to run away and kite him, you can just continually run through his model. The boss takes forever to turn around, making you impervious to his attacks.

You can actually just straight tank the pudding, once it starts casting Fire, run behind it - It will make Fire cancel and you'll also evade the flail (it always come right after fire).
This way there's no need to time Fluid Aura or make everyone else chase it around.

If you want to use Fluid Aura, the sequence is generally: an electric-looking pulse animation, followed by an auto-attack, then Fire, then the flail.

This. I time my Fluid Aura to happen when he begins casting Fire. He'll get launched back, flail, and return to the tank.
